What causes UO to crash?

Hey all, i have experienced a few crashes and was just curious waht coul be causing this. What happens is such:

I am moving, my character freezes up, the sound starts to repeat the same sound over and over, then I get the UO has caused and error, do you want to report it blah blah.

I am running windows XP. Is there a common symptom that causes this ?I am running on the 5.0 client.

in game sound is ok.

I believe I have the music off, I will check that, I know my sound is on - anything else? I want to check everything heh.
