Treasure Maps

Post by Lord Cavewight of GL »

I have two issues with treasure maps I have seen lately.

The first issue is I get a message saying "you cannot incite that" when I provoke monsters around the chests. Even when they start walking around I randomly get this message. At some point it starts letting me provoke the monsters. Its a really random and sometimes a rare occurrence but it happens enough to become very annoying.

The second issue is a higher chance of getting high end weapons off treasure maps.

When I farm anything I have a box in my bank I store my magic items in. When I solely farm monsters and use a fresh box I get 2-4 Vanq weps before I get to 50 or so items and move my box into my house. When I do treasure maps sometimes I will get 2-3 Vanqs in one T-Map. Its obvious to me that T-Maps give a much higher chance of getting vanqs than balrons, titans and the other high end monsters I farm in my spare time.

Just today I got a PERFECT Katana (Indestructible, +25 Vanq) and a Vanq q-staff AND a +25 bow off a level 2 map. I understand it is possible for such a thing to happen but it seems to me that treasure maps are giving wayy to many vanqs if you compare their drops to monster drops.

Thats just pure luck; I've done a dozen over the past two weeks, I came out with a +20 hally and a nice kat. Thats it. Rest is just random junk. If anything I feel ripped off. =/

yeah i did 3 level 3 maps yesterday, i got 1 vanq which was a +15 kryss, and an invulnerability studded gorget. rest was complete junk (not even a decent power wep). even the clothing/bracelets were total crap. you just had some wtfluck, don't bother buying a lotto ticket for the rest of your life.

though i have killed 500+ top level monsters (the ones that drop lv5 tmaps), and have gotten 1 or 2 vanqs out of the whole deal, so if anything i'd think monsters are giving crap loot as opposed to t-maps paying out big time

+1

That kind of loot is VERY RARE for a t-map...of any level. If you go away from a t-map with 1 vanq, and 1 power, you came out ahead.

AFAIK, modifiers in loot in both t-maps and mobs is random, and IMO it should remain like it is.

I have done level 5 tmaps that don't even produce a vanq. In fact, that happens on a fairly regular basis. You got extremely lucky with that kind of loot from a level 2.

Im not saying that I get Vanqs out of every T-Map guys. I was trying to say that if I get 50 weps from Mobs vs 50 weps from T-Maps almost 100% of the time im getting more vanqs out of my T-Maps. Keep in mind I mean 50 force, equivalent or higher items.

I did about 10 maps yesterday, a mix of level`s 1 and 3. I got a +25, Indestructible, Vanq or other top end mod in every chest but 3 of them. In some chests I got multiple high end mod items. I got a total of 28 items I kept and of those 4 were Vanqs.

It just seems to me your much much much more likely to get high end weapons off T-Maps as opposed to high end monster loot.

This is what I was trying to express, T-Maps give much better loot than monsters.

I dont think I worded my original post well enough to convey my message. :(

The primary reason I posted was to point out that annoying message im getting that tells me you cannot incite that. Is anyone else getting this message when provoking monsters from a T-Map?

I've done maybe 10-20 t-maps on this server but I never got that message.

you might be accidentally targeting yourself or another item which is non-provoke-able

I mentioned this in another thread that I thought that the amount of Vanq's coming out of TMaps & MIB chests was a lot. Everyone yelled at me & said it's era accurate. lol :)

However, someone else said something that makes more sense. Perhaps Monster's are just dropping jack sh*t.

The difference between monsters and treasure chests is their loot table. Monsters have a set range of gold, and a set range of loot they can drop, with good chances of you not getting a vanq or treasure map.

Chests however have much fewer restrictions. You have as good an overall chance at getting a vanq out of a level 1 chest as a level 5.

Chests spawn a set limit of gold, reagents and scrolls, then just have a parameter of say "5 magic items", or "40 magic items". Those items are assigned completely random stats. Thus, by playing odds, you could potentially get 4 vanqs out of a level 1 map, and nothing but force/guarding out of a level 5.

Hope that helps you.

AW and WW always drop multiple magic items, balron always has a sword. Given the amount of time I spend farming mobs I'd expect to see far more vanqs than I get out of monsters. If the stats are completely random in dungeon chests, I'm going to guess that on monsters you have like a 95% chance of the item being less than power, going on the stats of items I've picked up.

Mobs are just bad for magic weapons/armor, period. IDK if that's era accurate or not because I didn't give a hoot about magic weapons in '99.
