Havent played since 1999, just started here

Post by VincentVolaju »

Hey all so I played UO from 1998-2001 then quit. I figured I would try it again, so I got a trial account and the game was completely different. There was ninja's and shit o.O even the graphics were different. Then someone told me about this server, apparently it is just like the UO I played back in 1999~ ? So I figured I would give it a shot here, but I had a few questions I was hoping some of you could help with. So if some of you could answer some of these questions that would be great!

How many people are on the server on average at any given time?

What is the PvP like? I remember having a house at the back of Brit GY where red friends and I would usually hang out, and blues would gather outside trying to kill us and it would be PvP fun all night =) Is the PvP like that here also?

Are there crazy macros and scripts? Ive read on the new UO there are like almost "I WIN" buttons, where someone has a script that does like 2 or 3 attacks all in a row and just instant kills people. How much manual work is needed for PvP here?

I forgot most everything about the game, includeing making money. What would you all suggest for a new player to do to make money to get started in the game to buy the needed things, like regs, horses, GM weps etc.?

Also, what would you guys say is the easiest play style / most n00b friendly type of character to play to get back into the game with? I was thinking maybe some kind of dexer, since I wont have the money for regs and don't really remember exactly how to play / PvP. However, If I am just a dexxer, will I just get destroyed by mages instantly all day long?

Thanks for reading this and hope to hear back from some people soon!!! Also, any other advice / opinions are welcome!!

Heya Vincent and welcome back to Uo Second Age :)

You'll usualy find about 400-600 clients online, this number is displayed on the main page at all times.

Dexxer is a cheap and easy way to get back into the game, I also find it one of the funnest.

There is a lot of information on these forums as well as in our wiki page if you find yourself trying to remember anything.

This thread is also very helpful: http://forum.uosecondage.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7418

Have fun! :)

Thanks im lookin over the wiki's now but I was wondering about the resolution? Im playing in window mode, and the resolution is like crazy small, my game is only 1/4 of my screen. Is that how most people play, on this really small window? Someone in game mentioned if I go any higher then it chops the game up and the corners of the screen turn black/grey. Is there anyway around this? I just want a bigger picture of the game, while not being in Full screen mode

change your desktop resolution to something smaller. eg if your desktop is 800x600, and your game size is 800x600, the play area will fill up the whole screen.

alternatively you can "force game size" to fill more of the screen, but it's faulty and your character/backpack etc will still be as small as they are now.

welcome to secondage.

Hey thanks for the desktop resolution idea, it works well. Ill just have to change my desktop from like 1920x1080 to something much lower everytime I wanna play lol. But its better then having a tiny screen to play in.

Also, I wasnt ganking anyone at the GY today. I got on and went there to see if there was players there like there used to be back in 1999, and yup, I saw Reds so I think I will like it here =)

One more thing, where does most of the PvP happen at on this server? Are there any hot spots where alot of PKs hang out at?

I have two Brit GY houses, a destard house, a yew bank house, a fire temple house, a bunch of larges... Listen - if you're actually good at house fighting you can hang out with me. There's a talent to it, unfortunately it is a lost art at the moment.

Get in touch and we will do some old school shit - at the back of the GY. And at the front.

Welcome to UOSA Vincent.

Be sure to do this if you haven't seen the thread on it yet:

Uncheck "use smart CPU usage reduction" because it's a bad option if your computer is okay running UO. It slows fast computers down

After unchecking that, restart UO and razor and it will run smoother.

Good luck!

Does Med not raise on its on when your not at 100% mana? You have to actually click the button to regen faster?

you need to use the skill, there aren´t passive gains in here.
To raise medit use this formula http://forum.uosecondage.com/viewtopic. ... 92#p175392

Does that mean when you have 100 Med, there is no passive regen either? Like Ill have to hit Med all the time, or is there passive regen, just it doesnt raise unless you click the skill?

There is passive regen. It´s just like you say, to raise med you need to use the skill.

From UOSecondage wiki :

Code: Select all

Passive meditation
Passive meditation kicks in when your mana level drops below maximum. The automatic process of gaining back lost mana is called passive meditation. You do not have to do anything to let this happen. The limits of passive meditation are as follows: The slowest possible passive regeneration speed of 1 mana point regained every 7 seconds applies to characters dressed in full plate armor or characters with 0 intelligence and 0 meditation skill. The highest possible passive regeneration speed of 1 mana point regained every second applies to characters dressed in cloth (or nothing) with 100 intelligence and 100 meditation skill. Between those minimum and maximum rate a gliding scale is used to determine the regeneration rate depending on armor, intelligence and meditation skill.

Not only do you need to USE the skill (clicking on Med), but also, the skill must have a chance of failure (so if you're trying to meditate from 95 mana to 100 with 50 Med skill, your skill won't rise).

The general formula is to try to meditate when the level of mana = 100 - (your med skill), so if you have 100 Int and 30 Med, use it when you have around 70 mana (70 mana = 100 - 30 [your med skill]).

Also, forget about trying to raise it while using alcohol, that was patched out.

Welcome to the shard. I am in the same boat, and have not played in quite some time. This place "feels" really familar, and I really enjoy the accuracy. I know this age of UO meant a lot to many players. I hope to relive some of those fond memories, and I hope to get to know all of you soon.
