Logged on last night with a 50/50 smith and magery char.
I forgot just how hard it is/was to start with nothin (considering its been 11 years since i had to do that!!!)
So from reading it sounds as if i need a bard to get upstart cash for regs to raise magery and housing/
I have actually never used a bard before.
Im assuming my character should start with 50 magery and 50 of what else?
This wont be my main as i dont see being a bard somethign i would enjoy... just need it to make some start up cash.
So i will need music? provoke? what else?
If anyone can suggest what to start with and then what to do (i have read how to macro provoke and what not) but im more interested in how to actually make money with a bard.
Thanks
In all my years of UO i never had a bard... help please

You don't have to make a bard to start getting cash to support your main.. Bards are efficient cash farmers, but are by no means the only way to go.
One method for raising cash simply and safely is to harvest wool and tailor items to sell to vendors, or mining/smelting ingots to sell to other players.. or lumberjacking/bowcraft.. etc etc.
You could also just start a dexxer and farm simpler monsters (i.e. harpies) until your skills are high enough to tackle more profitable prey..
All of these can provide a quick and dirty cash flow.

If you are going for pure bard i would use this template
music
provo
mage
resist
wrestling
meditation
hiding - may want to put in a different skill here depending on your play style. I tend to go afk while hunting so thats why i chose hiding.

I also played about 11 years ago, and now have started to play again. The bard is absolutely the way to go here. I have played on this shard for 2 weeks now, and here is my template:
-Musicianship
-Provocation
-Magery
-Resist
-Meditation
-Lockpicking
-Cartography
This has worked well for me, but I made him a bard/t-hunter. The last two skills you can play around with and maybe do something else. I would suggest to start with 50 Magery/50 resist. Resist is hard to gain so I'd start with it for sure.
