NPCs in Buc's Den steal from you?!

Is this accurate? Never seen or heard of this. I was fighting a red NPC in Buc's Den, and it stole 4 Mandrake root from me. It was hilarious... but again... never heard or seen this before.

They have always done it.. Pirate NPCs do it too.
