archery support template

Post by Soulace »

Hello second age. I'm attempting to create a support archery template to add dps to a group for both pvp and pvm. Currently it looks something like this:

str:100 dex:100 int:25

Swords 100
Archery 100
anatomy 100
tactics 100
healing 100
resist 100
magery 50
med 50

My question really lies in the magery/med area as the rest seems pretty standard. is that 50:50 split between the two correct? should i pump more into magery, maybe 75/25? or max out magery and drop med all together? The purpose is to get the occasional cure or greater heal for survivability in addition to the bandies. Thanks in advance.

I'd drop the med and add tracking or hiding. You might want to raise magic a bit just so you don't miss a recall in a critical moment, 70.1 should be all you need.

Also, welcome to UOSA!!

I think 50 parry is worth it, that's me though. But as an archer the further you are able to know someone is off screen a bit the better...so if I had to give a definitive answer I would say drop med for tracking.

Maybe 40 tracking 60 magery lower dex a bit and raise intelligence. Load up on invisible scrolls. Reason...you lure to a spot with heavy mobs and invisible to draw the heat on your opponent. A good archer makes good use of his environment and off screening is key so even if you are right on the guy set your tracking on him right off.

Hi,
my one of my builds is similar except that I've found with 70.1 magery you will never fail a recall but at 50 magery you fail recals alot... just something to think about.

Macing
Archery
Tactics
Anatomy 80
Healing
Magery 80
Resist
Tracking 40

Str 100
Dex 75
Int 50

Play smart...slow him down, soften him up, Invisible to leave him to the mobs bandage if you must prior to casting, giving a bit of time for your bow timer to finish then...fire on him switch back to quarter staff try to catch him while he has aggro pin him against the mobs

One thing that tournaments and events don't teach you is how to make the most from your environment on the field. Matron made a survival guide awhile back that included making a table/footstool macro in order to put distance between you and your aggressor.

The field is nothing like tournaments and events. The ones who participate the most in them are the ones who are usually caught in ellaborate schemes, and dirty tricks the majority of the time.

I advise you to die and die often on the field by those you encounter, those who comandeer that aspect of the game deserve your upmost respect. You will learn the game better outside the box even if all your belongings end up in a gump from time to time.

Take Panthor for example, and huzzah to him for his recent victory.

Ah, now that is an interesting template...i like it. Was originally thinking swords for the poison...but i can definitely see the usefulness of the stamina dmg.

The anatomy will suffer 4% less overall dmg...along with a slower swing speed due to the lower dex right? will that be felt? I guess for a support char it would not really matter much...either I'm using mobs to add additional nuisance damage as you've recommended, or an ally.

What equipment would you run for this, q-staff, heavy x-bow, and what type of armor?

Thanks for sharing all, very helpful. and thanks for the advice archaic...i'm sure i'll spend plenty of time being looted by my betters as i learn this game again. I really like out of the box templates and play styles, i tend not to veer towards the tried and true, sometimes to my own frustration.

You will be surprised how quickly you can swing a Q-staff at 75 dex...with a greater agility potion it not being maxxed won't even be felt.

4 percent isn't much, there are magic weapons that can take you past 100 tactics to make up for your anatomy loss and added damage to boot.

It's really up to you about the tracking but if you are hunting or need to offscreen it helps keep tabs on your primary target. 40 med isnt much, but in a long fight it can mean life or death. I mean I gave a concept you are the one bringing your character to life. Just threw out some ideas...it's all you man.
Anyway...

Heavies are good as first hitters, I would switch to a bow though once the heat is on. Again that's me, you might think differently. Definately a dexxer suit for the temp I gave.

If you must have 2 weapon skills (the archer/dexer thing doesnt work to well anymore), drop archery instead of anatomy. You can always get a magic bow that will give you a bonus to archery and keep you at gm or better.

Oh yeah I forgot magic bows are unique in that they can give you additions to your bowmanship...good call

Hi matron, I am curious how does the archer/dexer thing not work "anymore"?

Also, just checking on numbers here, the bare minimum for tracking other players would be 40?

What he's saying is, currently (previously) the swing rate was capped at 5 seconds. So no matter how low your dex or how slow your weapon, you'd always swing or shoot every 5 seconds. I'm not sure when the fix went in (or will go in) but going forward it's going to be a 10 second cap (accurate). Huge difference in damage output, of course.

Main issue with archery on the field (especially if you have multiple weapon skills) is the initial delay on equip.

OUCH! Ok, that is really good to know. Ten seconds between shots, that's something I'll have to think about. it would really only be useful as an opener. huh...
