Another weird death

I saw a grey (hired) npc at Britain bank so I decided to attack it... and when I landed his last hit guard instantly killed me for killing a grey (hired) npc?

The npc body remains grey after I died... :\

This happened to a frenzied ostard of mine... attacked a grey npc fighter in Delucia who was engaged with the player who hired it, and it killed the NPC fighter and the second it killed him, it got guardwhacked.
