Banned from IRC (Now sorted)

Post by Jill Stihl »

Hi folks,

I've been banned from IRC, apparently as a result of another user using my (registered) name after I briefly changed mine to another?

I can't get in to try to sort it out in there, what do I do now?

Sorry if this is the wrong place but this is a bit new to me and I'm far from familiar with the workings of IRC.

Thanks for any advice folks.

Edit - I'm back in and know why I was banned now. Ta.

Thanks for the reply.

I'd still like to know what I did to warrant it, if only to avoid doing it again, but if it's only a 30 minute ban I guess I can live with it.

<@Derrick> The bans were more for mocking the +m

If an op/mod/admin corrects someone's behavior in the channel, it is generally bad practice to mock it or immitate the behavior that got the original behavioral correction.

I understand that and wouldn't have knowingly done so. What I had failed to understand at the time was the meaning of "+m" being posted and joined in some nick-changing silliness at the wrong time.

But ignorance is no excuse, I now know what it means and shall hopefully avoid further bans. Thanks for the replies folks :)
