Silver and the last week

Post by elhorno »

Just wanted to share my thoughts on the last week and the silver discussion. Silver was introduced in 2 separate world events, Halloween and then the UWL event.
Personally, I think both were extremely effective. All those who participated in either event were putting themselves at risk. I read multiple posts of people getting silver only to lose it at death. Awesome! If we could, as a shard, maintain player run events with some regularity, we would likely see similar results. Trade forum has seen a lot of silver posts in the last week.
The best part is the people selling the silver are of such a wide array of character types, not just pvpers.
This feels like t2a in my opinion.
Agree? Disagee?

It was awesome, made a lot of people participate in the events and made them more fun for all involved, and now more people have a chance to save up for some era-rares. Really happy with the enthusiasm for both events!

As I understand it*:
  • Silver itself is NEA, however, silver is the only mechanism available on UOSA to obtain certain Era Accurate objects/rewards, via the Silver Turn-In System.
  • Staff-run or Player-run events are Era Accurate.
  • Staff-run or Player-run events can have custom elements (e.g. custom monsters, custom objects), since an event is a custom addition to the normal game, and because events in 1999 featured custom monsters/objects.
Therefore, in my opinion, considering our current silver system:
  • Having silver available as a custom object via Halloween and the UWL Player-run event was a good thing.
* Staff, or a shard veteran should step in here if I've got these details wrong.

Key:
NEA = Not Era Accurate. (UOSA seeks to emulate November 23rd, 1999, the date of Publish 1.)

Lelouche, would you like to see silver removed from UOSA?

I can see that from an Era Accuracy viewpoint.

There is a recent thread that discusses removing the Silver Turn-in System (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=33468), but it doesn't cover removing silver. By "removing silver", I mean don't introduce new silver into the game (existing silver would stay in the tradition of "grandfathering"). Is there a recent discussion about that?
