GM DecHidden on my treasure hunter

Hi,

i have 100 Dec Hidden on my treasure hunter. Do i really need 100 Dec Hidden or is 80 enough for lockpicking dungeon chests?

My Template:

100 DecHidden
95 Lockpicking

Can i open all dungeon chests with 95 lockpicking?

You can open all of them with 95 lockpicking, yes. So it's safe to drop Detect.

One thing I'm curious about though... how often do you break lockpicks?

There are a bunch of historical posts on UO boards about "never breaking a pick" at some point. I don't know if (a) these people had some value of Detect Hidden, (b) they weren't trying to pick the hardest chests, or (c) they're mistaken. But as it is, at GM lockpicking, I break picks all the time on dungeon chests.

in order to do a lvl 5 tmap chest with 95 LP you also need at least 60 DH. just drop detect to 60 until you gm lockpicking, then you can totally drop detect. with gm lockpicking you will be able to open any lvl chest with just lockpicking.

breaking picks seems really random to me. sometimes i do 4-5 high level maps in a row without breaking a single pick, even when i fail to pick the chest. sometimes i break 2-3 picks in a row on the same chest.
