Couple questions - Thieves Guild and Recall Scrolls

Post by Arthen »

Hello everyone =)

I just have a couple questions for those that know the workings of this era; it has been a while for me.

1) If I join the Thieves Guild with an Assassin to be character that has 60 stealing, am I able to drop my stealing to 0 once I have joined and remain in the guild. I am mainly concerned about being able to use the disguise kit. Also, if I kill warring guild characters, will I be kicked out of the Thieves Guild? Can I be blue with a couple murder counts and still be in the Thieves Guild or must I have 0, no exceptions?

2) What is the minimum magery/int requirement to cast recall from a scroll or runebook, are they different? I was looking at having a character with 25 int (basic warrior stats) and 20 magery just for getting around. I would only ever cast recall from a scroll, is this enough? Or am I better off dropping some skills 10 points to my magery up to 30 or so? Anyone know?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I don't know if you get booted from the thieves guild once you don't meet the requirements anymore.

You can kill orange(warred) players without taking a count.
Once you get 1 murder count, you are booted from the guild.

The fail rate of using a recall scroll is significantly higher at 20 magery than it is at 30. Is it worth dropping 10 of something else? Probably. A failed recall at the wrong time could spell disaster. The success chance is the same when using a runebook or a scroll.

Ok thanks =)

Now, does Anatomy effect melee damage in chunks? I was thinking of dropping my healing to 85 and my anatomy to 85 to make room for 30 magery. Will I notice a huge drop in damage if I do this? Or is 85 anatomy the same as 80 so it'd be better to drop it to either 80 or 90 and not inbetween?

Anatomy is...needed.

Especially when you're dealing with healing. I've done alright with GM Anat and 95 healing, but any lower than that and you'll have trouble resurrecting and curing poisons.

Well, with the way my template is layed out, that might have to be the skill to suffer.

I am looking at an Assassin type with

100 hiding
100 stealth
100 fencing
100 tactics
100 poisoning
85 healing
85 anatomy
30 magery

and 100 str/100 dex/25 int

I know I can have another character do the poisoning, but I like a little bit of RP tossed in there and I'd rahter rely a little more on potions than most people and keep the skill.

I've ran with 90 healing/anat. It seems to do alright. Most times when you res you have a bit of downtime anyhow, like you retreat up the hallway or such.

I try to never rely on a bandage for curing purposes..

Well would it help my recall chance from a scroll if I had higher int instead of dropping my anat and healing so much?

Say 90 str / 90 Dex / 45 int with 20 or 25 magery or is that not really a big difference?

The only thing that effects success chance of casting is magery, aside from casting via scroll.

You might want to reconsider the template, as having poisoning on your fighter won't yield any different result than having poisoning on your alchemist and pre-poison weapons. Not having resist is kinda bad too. While stealthed, since we don't have etheral mounts here, you will be on foot constantly. Everyone that doesn't have stealth will have a horse. They will disappear from your screen in a matter of seconds. Here's a template that might be better in the long run:

swords 100
tactics 100
healing 100
anatomy 100
hiding 80
magery 70
resist 90
meditation 60
(or drop meditation and gm everything)

100str 80dex 45int

I understand that I won't be mounted and that stealth puts me at a disadvantage is this regard, but, I am like the feel of the character =)

I am more concerned about how much to drop my anatomy/healing to increase my magery.

Thanks for the feedback though, appreciate the thoughts.

Playing an assassin doesn't always mean going toe to toe. It takes time, knowledge of your enemy and usually time stalking your prey and learning their patterns to truly be successful.

I understand it's a challenging template....that's what makes it such a thrill when you succeed and see the strengths of it shine.

Drop poisoning, and GM heal/anat. 30 magery, 70 resist.

If you aren't going toe to toe, you probably won't need to re-apply poison on the field. Just carry a couple of poisoned weapons.

I can confirm that you cannot use the disguise kit you you take a murder count and are suspended from the thieves guild. I don't see any restriction however on using the kit or remaining in the guild if your stealing drops below 60.

You can cast invisbile on your horse do a stealth attack and then run to it. If you had tracking or knew when your victim would appear you could kill one of your alts after they hit you once with O wrestling making them grey to the looter victim. When they go picking around the corpse come in on them and jump on your horse.
