I believe the recommended patch is somewhere in the 5.xx range...
My client is currently patched to latest 6.xx something.

While any 5.x and up patch will work, 5.0.8.3 is highly recommended. There are changes in the map post 5.9.x which may cause you to become stuck in some areas , and the removal of some of the old menus post 5.8.x will make some things look a little different.
