Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
I'm really confused over this. I'm not new to UO, but I'm new to this shard. So I have a half-developed character with improper stats and a mixture of skills. I bard to make money and buy reagents piece by piece so I can train.
Last night, I had 8,000 gold in the bank. I went barding and made 4,000. I recalled to bank and banked it. I recalled back to my barding spot and immediately got PKed. I ended up signing off then while dead since it was late.
I woke up today and got my character rezzed and went to get some money for a horse and I have a balance of 0 gold.
Here's the trick - I thought, well, MAYBE I moved the gold from my bank to my pack on accident and got PKed with everything on me.
The curve ball is - I don't think I have the proper strength to hold that much gold yet. As I said this character is still being developed and trained, despite him being my primary money maker so far. I get overloaded around 8500, so I couldn't have had 12k in my pack.
Just wanted to get this out there in case somebody could shed some light on this.

No, I didn't. I'm really only buying things I need to train, which is really only reagents.
The time line of events is this:
From previous barding experiences, I had 8k in the bank.
I go out barding again, make 4k. I recall to bank and drop it in bank.
I recall back to the same location where I just made 4k, and within 30 seconds I get rolled by PKs.
I log off, dead, in the woods.
I log in in the morning, dead, in the woods.
I get to town, get rezzed, "bank" and I see nothing. Thinking maybe it was hidden under my random shit in the bank, I said "balance" and it said 0.
I'm honestly confused. It's no big deal cause I'm making up that money as we speak, but damn! What happened?

Re: Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
You say you got PK'd, did you post all the gold in your bank as bounty?

Re: Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
good thought question is would it take all gold if he typed a number larger then what he had in bank .. or would it give an error seeing he didn't have that much gold .. would have been crazy for him to mistaken typed in the exact amount of gold he had in his bank.

Re: Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
in the menu it gives that amount as (max: xxxxx) which is the lesser of sum of gold in the players bank, or the maximum amount that can be bountied (i forget the number)
When you post a bounty, the gold is withdrawn from your bank.
I belive if you type a number bigger than what is allowed the menu is redisplayed

Re: Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
Funny you mention that, because I didn't even know you could do that with bounties. I just assumed the menu popping up was asking me if I wanted to flag them as a murderer - where in each instance I hit cancel.
Like I said, it's not a big deal - I'm just sincerely confused over it and if it was a mistake I did, I'd like to know what it is so I don't accidentally dump 500k after getting PKed without realizing it.

Re: Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
Did you type "balance" at the bank to find your balance to be zero, or did you look to see the gold missing?
Sometimes bankboxes are a Cluster- err clustered
and its easy to misplace items in them.

Re: Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
Yes, I did. I bought like 15 drums from the one shop so when I'd die I could just grab one and keep barding instead of searching around. Drums cover up a good chunk of your bank box, and that was my first thought. But I typed balance and it said 0. I was like, uhh? No? There was definitely 12,100ish here...archaicsubrosa77 wrote:Did you type "balance" at the bank to find your balance to be zero, or did you look to see the gold missing?

Re: Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
Off topic, but why would you do that? Give them the count!Roasted wrote:asking me if I wanted to flag them as a murderer - where in each instance I hit cancel.
Re: Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
It must not have been the murder gump, you would actually have to type the amount in, and press ok.
I've never known an (eventually) unexplained case of gold missing from the bank. It makes no sense to me. If it has been purchases from player vendors, there would have been something left over.
Does anyone else have access to your account?

Re: Serious Question - How does gold disappear?
can i ask the pk's names .. so we can maybe check to see if this was the cause .. by checking bounty boards

Oh geez, I don't remember. There was like 9 of them that gang raped me so quick I barely even got to notice that they were red before I had died.Chaos wrote:can i ask the pk's names .. so we can maybe check to see if this was the cause .. by checking bounty boards
-I know I didn't type anything in.
-I know I had the money in my bank.
-I know it disappeared.
-I have no idea how.
-I am positive I did not buy anything whatsoever.
Maybe there was a crash afterwards and it reverted to hours before I made the money? I don't know. I work in IT support, so I'm used to hearing people say "I swear I'm typing the right password in" when they clearly are not. Yes, the computer is lying. That's it.
But the truth is - I'm really befuddled by this one. Granted, it's no big deal, I've since made up for the money. It's just me trying to figure out what happened so if it was a mistake on my end I don't do it again!
