I've noticed lately that many of the threads in this forum do not contain actual facts and data, which are required for the staff to make any game-altering change. No, I'm not whining, nor am I complaining. Instead, I'm proposing a solution:
Split this forum into two fora: "Suggestions" and "Era Accuracy"
The first will be used for when you wish to probe the memories of others, or want something on the website changed.
The latter will consist of threads containing actual hard facts and proper discussion of possible changes.

Re: Suggestions and Era Accuracy Forums
In my opinion, there are a couple problems with this.
The first is that a discussion may not always come up with sufficiently hard facts to warrant a solid "suggestion", but the staff might still decide to take some sort of action on it, thus blurring the distinction. Further, even if some sort of solidified suggestion comes out, the staff is probably going to look through the discussions leading up to the "suggestion" anyway (and they should) for better context, making the distinction somewhat pointless.
The second issue is psychological. I think the intertwining of "Suggestions & Era Accuracy" helps to reinforce the fact that we're here to move towards a more perfect replication of T2A era. Some of that psychological effect may be lost in having a simple "Suggestions" forum.

Well naturally, discussion will take place on both threads, but the difference will be:Teg wrote:In my opinion, there are a couple problems with this.

~Suggestions~
"Hello. I seem to recall soandso. What do you think?"
"That sounds right. I'll do some research on it."
~Era Accuracy~
"Evening, fine chaps. Me and this bloke were discussing soandso: *link* and I have found the following conclusive proof: *proof*"
"Well, yes, but how do we know the exact nature of soandso?"
"By this proof: *proof*"
"Ah, well done, mate."
"Cheerio!"

Re: Suggestions and Era Accuracy Forums
anything that is classed as a valid suggest should be era accurate, so the two are one and the same. unless there is evidence to support a suggestion, i don't see any reason for discussing it.. unless you were asking other people to look for the evidence for you.

Re: Suggestions and Era Accuracy Forums
Many changes have been made with overwhelming player memory as "evidence". For example, I just made a post about the speed at which birds move. Is there really any chance at all of finding some site from 1999 that mentioned how fast or slow in tiles/second that birds moved? Probing posts should be allowed in this forum for this reason.
Re: Suggestions and Era Accuracy Forums
I'm not asking for the banning of probing posts. I just feel they belong in a separate forum from threads in which proper debate can take place over hard, factual evidence.Mikel123 wrote:Many changes have been made with overwhelming player memory as "evidence". I think it's a good idea, but not good enough to warrant retraining people on forum divisions,
