Re: Housing overpopulation

Post by Mikel123 »

It took me three months to earn enough gold for a couple castle deeds. Then another month of searching the forums and the shard for a castle for sale at a reasonable price (around 1,500,000 was my budget). Then another month of looking for castle-fitting spots that were occupied by smaller houses that I could buy up and remove to put a castle in their spot. Then another month of doing that at three different areas before I finally found one that I was able to buy up and/or wait for other houses to IDOC and drop.

If you're looking for a shard where you can easily drop a castle, you're in the wrong place. If you're looking for a shard where you can constantly find hundreds of players online and maybe eventually buy up a castle, you're in the only shard where that's possible.

TK-FourTwoOne wrote:So you're saying because you've been here for (insert number here) you deserve castle spots, Caswallon? Almost NO players amass that much money in such a small amount of time during their first month, its quite a feat. If anything, someone willing to put that much work into farming /crafting/whatever for the express purpose of buying a keep or castle...should be able to get a keep or castle. But no, I guess being reasonable is too much for some old fart that just sits on his gold and laughs at new players.

lol

dude, not even old players here can just go BUY castles, or place castles. and that's how it should be

we will probably never have the player numbers to emulate a t2a accurate housing situation

the only way we are recreating the t2a housing situation, is by doing exactly what we are doing

in t2a you could NOT place a large house on ANY shard by just looking for plots. you had to buy ANY large plots from other players.

its not quite as bad here, you can place large houses, just not keeps and castles, those you must buy from players.

stop the whining about gold you dont have and houses you can't afford. do something about it in game instead of trying to get policy changed.

And here's the irony... the high house limit (essentially 15 per player) is precisely what allowed me to place my castle.

Now you can claim it also made it necessary to go through all these gyrations to do it. But the fact is, at one point I had 11 houses placed. One was a tower, one was a vendor house, and 9 more were 7x7's and 14x14's that I was occupying space with until I covered a castle-sized area with all my own stuff.

Exactly, a prestige building, which is all a keep/castle really is, should be a long term goal to work towards, if everyone could simply go place a status symbol building after 2 weeks, those people would not play longer than a month. What goals would they have to work towards? Instant gratification = less likely to be a long term player. Slow achievement of goals = solid medium to long term player in my opinion.

PS. Hows looking for those inaccuracy's in the housing policy going TK?

Yeah, but if two new guys come along and manage to farm that cash 10x faster than you did, you can't exactly blame them for that. He even said he has the money to purchase a castle from a player, but with ridiculous inflation(1.5m for a castle spot? not going to happen these days, unless you are an old vet with friends)I doubt he wants to pay like 3m for a spot, even then it'd be in a swamp or on dagger isle.

He didn't say he thinks everyone deserves a keep or castle spot, he merely said he TRIED to place since he could afford to and literally not a single spot anywhere was available. Just because it took you 5 months to afford that super-mega awesome spot you wanted, doesn't mean another(newer)player shouldn't be able to do the same thing, if he farmed that same amount of cash within 1/5 of your time frame. Not only that he also pointed out it took him 5 hours to place, while running around with a friend. FIVE HOURS TO PLACE A LARGE PATIO.

Oh and an empty castle isn't exactly what everyone aims for in UO, I don't want one, that doesn't mean other players should have to jump through hoops on a mildly populated server just to have the *chance* to get one. I could go onto hybrid RIGHT NOW and place a castle with a lot less hassle than it is to place here, does that make sense? No? Yes? I guess in your drug-addled minds where only you and your guild of 5 veterans deserve all those fancy spots, it does.

Also, its funny that you guys say new players don't deserve a chance at high-end housing, even if they have the gold, even though if an old server player came(lets say his houses dropped as IDOCS), do you really think it would take him two weeks to talk to a few old pals and get a great spot? Hahahaha. You guys are a class act, really. Especially with that "old players can't purchase a castle if they want to", yeah, ok. I guess you forgot to mention any castle for sale(or plot of land equal to one)will be owned by one of the "real estate brokers" of this shard that is coincidentally in your guild, or your friends guild.

edit - One more thing, its funny that you said it was me whining about things being fair, yet you are the ones reinforcing that claim. IT TOOK ME 5 MONTHS TO GET THIS OMG IT SHOULD TAKE EVERYONE 5 MONTHS. Sorry this is UO bro, this isn't a payshop mmo where you can dump 1 grand in donations to be a hot shot.

Yes, in t2a, castles only cost 3 mil, and 2 week old players who farmed "faster than you" could easily afford them. Lol

The biggest and most expensive gold sink on the shard, should be acquired in 2 weeks of farming.

I understand since you've never worked an actual job, that busting your ass for like 10 hours a day might seem like a stretch(please debate this, and pretend I wasn't there in IRC when you were bragging about shrugging off loaded guns being pointed at your head and having dealed for like 8 years). Guess what, people can go for a lot longer than 10 hours a day in UO. Keep sitting on your throne thinking that only YOUR gold is good enough for a castle, it really shows how much of a greedy tard you are. And for the record, the "best" pvper on the shard trying to argue housing is fine is pretty ridiculous, its the same with players that own 10+ houses trying to argue its fair and accurate. The payshop mmo comment(if only you could understand it)only backed up my point, "instant gratification" isn't a fucking month of around the clock farming, its using a payshop or somebody giving you something.

Dude, get out of here with your stupid fukin' insults.

This isn't whatever lame ass shard you came from. Take the rules for what they are or leave, don't get all pissy because no one agrees with you and start spouting stupid sh*t.

Can you **** place a castle on Hybrid, that place is full of badly designed neon pink cubes. Its housing is tighter than here. Your an idiot, plain and simple, and throwing personal insults at people based on what you think you know about them based on some posts in a forum, all because you cant go place a tower 1 screen from brit guard zone is not going to win you the policy change you want. And I guarantee you i could place a patio here in half hour.

Your making yourself look like a complete retard. Either find something that makes our housing policy inaccurate, or stfu. Its that simple.[Feb 15th 2000 would be a good place for you to start looking]

FYI: Farming, you can farm 500k in a day here, probably closer to a million, it does not take some special skill set to do this, other than not being a retard, so I understand you may not understand this.

Wow really? Because all new players start with 3 accounts full of GM characters?? I didn't know this amazing fact!! Keep shitting on noobs guys, it makes you look fantastic. See, you guys are arguing for only yourselves, yet I'm trying to help future players who may want to place a castle or anything above an L shape, the only reason you see this as a problem is because of your shitty attitudes that have no place in an actual discussion thread. Don't want me to call you babbies or other dumb names? Don't act like it.

Housing may be "tighter than here" (how is this possible if almost all spots are taken anyways?) on Hybrid, but money is about 500000x easier to get. Last time I played Hybrid(maybe 3 months ago?)I had a larger than L custom house placed within 2 days. The Hybrid example was just that, an example. They have triple the amount of players we do and yet it isn't as much as a hassle to place there. This isn't a big "mystery", it's the housing limit. Perhaps if you bothered to read more than a line of my posts before responding in pure rage you would get the point, but I suppose that is asking way too much.

FYI "your an idiot" made me laugh more than it should have, I guess you don't read your own posts either?
Also on the post you just made, I pop on the forums once a day, if I notice somebody calling me out in this thread, sure I'll post the same points Biohazard and anyone with half a functioning brain managed to actually realize. It's not only entertaining to see older players stumbling over their feet to call me a noob and get angry, it's depressing.

Sooooo, because Manhattan was sold for $24 a while ago, I should be able to buy my own, equally-sized island today for $24 as well?

I said it took me 3 months to earn the gold. And then 2 months, and a lot of time and effort, to place a castle.

So you got the 3 months part done quicker. Congrats.

Now try the second, harder part. Hint: posting on the forums instead of scouting places in the game, finding who owns houses blocking you, and looking for IDOCs, will not make this part happen faster.

First let me say that I am not asking for anything from anyone. I don't want a policy change. I don't want a castle and I sure don't want to get in the middle of an argument. I WOULD like to see more people on the shard. I think this is a great idea to keep an era accurate shard running. I can remember the first time I logged into UO and the old treasure chest creaked open to let you log in. Fond memories in deed. I'm new and have worked a first characer up enough to afford a deed and will place a small house to help me gather the resources to trade up. When the time time comes I will place a larger home or pay a fair price to someone just like I did on Atlantic way back when. If I held lots of empty houses and worked to refresh them I would be pissed if I was forced to give them up due to a change in "rules" of the world. I would encourage all those players who own the hundreds of empty houses I pass to recruit new players to fill the homes. More people means more fun in the long run and more access to afforable housing will help recruit more players. If anyone has a large patio in a decent spot and wants a respectable neighbor let me know. :D
