Advertising with class...
If you see someone at the bank macroing an advertisement for another server, what do you do???
Normally people will react by attempting to kill the macroer, hoping that they are not at their pc so it will kill the advertisement, right? Stuff like that really gets under the skin and tends to piss people off.
So why not show some class and not sink to that level? There is no reason why anyone should have to go beyond websites, forums, and advertisement banners by spamming up another server ingame or on their forums. The staff doesn't aprove of this, nor does any other servers staff...so why continue to make our server look bad by doing it??
Just a thought :/

Merchant and pirate were for a long period one and the same person. Even today mercantile morality is really nothing but a refinement of piratical morality.

I disagree, and here's why. If someone is willing to log into another shard and advertise theirs they are either the shard owners, someone who works closely with staff, or at least brags about it back to other people on that shard and/or the owners. Either way I'm sure they know about it. Getting people to vote is like pulling teeth let alone creating accounts and spamming them; pretty sure it's someone involved with the shard in an intricate way. This isn't really the proper forum to advertise on anyway. Would you go to Domino's Pizza and start handing out Papa John's coupons? You would be promptly kicked out and rightfully so. They show no class by coming here and doing this, but more importantly they have shown us their fear. You see, you can't force people to play these shards, and the way their staff has treated people over the years is disgusting. They are simply reaping what they sow, as Earl Nightingale would say. I tend to believe Derrick is one truly great salesman as he doesn't overact and listens to all points of view, but maintains his values. Preaching to other UO players about a UO shard is like preaching to the choir. I tried to explain to those tools a long time ago you need a new audience but in their little world the only players they can get are from other shards. R.I.P. that other bullshit shard. They aren't the only dance in town now and it's frightening them. P.S. I logged on to see what Brit Bank looked like....someone tell their shard to run to the healers cause that shit is dead.

If they are AFK, then by all means kill them. I see no problem with this, nor how it is being in poor taste.
Class-less would be when people start arguing/yelling at the advertiser. It's when people get into the shit-talk mode of "GTFO UR SHARD SUX" that makes people look like dopes, and/or when they reciprocate the favor and start spamming their shard/forum with "UOSECONDAGE RULEZ." All that does is make this place look as bad, or worse since it's being done out of clear spite.

You all make way too big of deal out of this. People who leave because of a bank macroer are gonna find a reason to leave anyway. The shard speaks for itself and, if deemed good enough by the majority, will flourish.
Further, I think people can make decisions for themselves, as long as they know the facts. I am glad someone told me of this shard, else I woulda never found it. If I am presented with various options I am a big boy and can choose which suits me. In this way, who cares if someone announces another shard or we announce ours.
The bitching and complaining about player stealers is just a way to put blame on someone for a shards failure. If a shard can't maintain members, its not because of advertisers.

I completely agree with this, however we still won't allow advertisers at the brit bank, no different that and oter adverticsing, be it for a website, or for Pepsi-Cola. It's a no solicitation policy.Ronk wrote:You all make way too big of deal out of this. People who leave because of a bank macroer are gonna find a reason to leave anyway. There isn't a problem with killing the advertisers. I do it myself in fact...Coffee wrote:If they are AFK, then by all means kill them. I see no problem with this, nor how it is being in poor taste.

Look at it this way...if they are worried about SecondAge becoming the competition and decide to spam up our server, that looks bad on them. If this shard speaks for itself then there is no reason why any of us need to stoop to that level and make SecondAge look like all the other desperate servers spamming up the competition.Ronk wrote:You all make way too big of deal out of this. I wouldn't agree with advertising regardless.
People may look at *SHARD* and see a bit of a higher pop (which is usually 1/2 multi clienting) and see faster gm skills and having never played *SHARD* (not knowing the faults, the administration problems, the player community, economy, gameplay, etc), might take the easy way out and join up there

Usually players decide to stay on a shard based off of their first few days of gameplay. Here it is very decent as far as it goes with being T2a accurate...but one really bad thing for this server is the amount of griefers. New players are not going to stick around when it takes a week or more to 7x GM when people are constantly ruining macros. Griefing has always been a part of UO...but here the griefing is obnoxiously overdone. If you don't believe me, try macroing provocation (which alot of newer players will start out with because bards bring in money) as a new player with no house. It's ridiculous.

Aye, true that be, mate.
But, I found a way around it. I paused work on my main character and made a miner. I blew all of my available resources on shovels and hit the mines for three days at about 4 to 5 hours a day. Made myself enough money to buy a large brick, but bought a small home instead. Now I have enough gold to build atleast two, maybe three 7xGM characters....and a nice, remote, peaceful home to macro in.
Work hard, play hard.
