I personally like the idea of more diverse events. It makes things interesting.
I dont think every single event needs to revolve around some attempt at emulating some standard.

A higher risk, higher reward event would be a fun event to take part in.
1v1 anything goes, whatever you can carry into the arena you can use. But, you risk losing it on death. Use any skill you want. Cast any spell you want, use any weapon you want.

This type of event could even have spectators unlike ctfs and double doms.

It was just stupid to compare 100 dragons to the steal skill in tourneys. The "majority" doesn't always matter with changes that are put into the shard so why should it matter in non-era accurate things like these automated events?
I fully understand why some bugs are left out, there has to be era-accuracy within reason, or we would all be gold-duping, blessed-vanq wielding, house looters. I agree with the "majority" statement though. I dont see how one can rationalize comparing "era-accurate dueling tourneys over a decade in tradition", to what is being proposed here.
I definitely do not support adding bugs that are exploitable to the shard for the purposes of era accuracy. Just pointing out the fallacy in Faust's argument about relaxing tourney rules for one play style over another. The argument that a tamer with 100 dragons would have the same impact on tourneys as a PvPer with the steal skill is a slippery slope argument. Of course exploitable bugs should be left out and the staff makes those determinations on a case-by-case basis (see Derrick's comments about pets opening doors from inside houses here - http://forum.uosecondage.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13184).

My point was simply that we should be intelligent enough to make a determination that adding stealing to tournaments will not have as severe an impact on tourneys as a tamer porting in 100 dragons for a fight.

My argument was about relaxation for one single template, not over powering your enemy.

This doesn't make the argument any less poor.

We are in agreement then! Stealing should be added to non-free use tourneys with Faust's stamp of approval! :)

The rules are there based on the traditional ruleset that has been in place for over a decade for competitive dueling. Stealing has never been allowed in a duel just like numerous other features that would get you disqualified during a normal or traditional player run tournament. The inaccurate addition of stealing by target type through Razor makes this even more pointless in my opinion too.

We should stick to the common consensus that has been in place for over a decade now for tournaments.

this "traditional rule set" you speak of was never intended to be a part of UO. Just like tournaments themselves were never built into the game. there is alot more to UO pvp then 1v1 tank mage battles. players made up these rules you speak of, not the game designers. i see no reason that this shouldnt be considered as stealing is a very viable pvp skill in field fighting.

Why not go field than where this all this is possible to do?

Tournaments were ran by players all the time using this ruleset. If it wasn't "met for the game" than players wouldn't have come up with them to get the most skill out of dueling. Get your own tournament added in game if you don't like the traditional ruleset. Tournaments and duels are not fielding, go field if you want fielding.

I would never advocate changing all tournaments to this type, but I still haven't heard a real argument against having one of these event types.

The thing with pvp is variety makes it more interesting. You allow Tamers to bring in pets, then you will start to see PvP anti-tamer bards spamming peace and provo to counter it. You allow thieves into the arenas and you start to see people packing tinker trapped reg boxes. There is no combat build that cant be countered by another and by adding more variety we make the tournaments more inclusive to the people on this shard that aren't exactly impressed by playing the same hally tank mage build that everyone else plays.

Honestly the rules can be as old as you like, it doesn't mean they can't be changed. Single build, or even 2 build pvp is an utter yawnfest. Especially when there is no risk of losing items. I don't understand why the established pvp crowd would be worried about adding some variety, I mean you guys are meant to be good right? Can't you adapt?

And anyway, it's not like there couldn't be an added anything-goes torunament leaving your precious tank mage/dexxer ones intact.

Couldn't agree more. No old patch notes to fall back on for this one eh Faust?

Automated events are going to be a part of UOSA. People love them, they are good fun. Since they are going to be around for along time than UOSA really should go all the way and have a large diverse number of different events. Events to suit a large number of players supporting all kinds of play styles. This would just be another small addition to what should be a diverse selection of events.

I thought everyone was done complaining about tamers? I think you meant to post this in that thread you and TT liked so much about a year ago.
