Pretty nice flame mike,

Also Archaicsabusa? Is right, we should all just get along :).

Era Accurate perma red. Are you sure about that?

I remember during T2A era, one of my 2 accounts got hacked. I had a great Lord turned red GM Smith/mage. Luckily he wasn't killed but I think I remember contemplating leaving him online in the house to sort of decay murder counts to some day become blue. Now I remember the time it would take was pretty prohibitive, and I think he eventually got killed, not sure. I stopped playing at some point.

Anyways I don't have proof, but are you sure there was Perma-red?

Yes, perma red is definitely accurate and patched in pretty early in '99.
Blue PK changes, fishing, and more Mar 28 1999 9:35AM CST - http://wiki.uosecondage.com/?title=1999_Patch_Notes wrote: Blue PK changes
We are slowly phasing in changes to the reputation system to reduce antisocial behavior. In this update, we have some changes that will push blue PKs to being red.
A new long-term counter will be added that tracks murder counts.
This counter will go up when you are reported for murder, like the current murder count.
This counter will decay at the rate of 1 every 40 hours (the current counter goes down 1 every 8 hours).
While this counter is five or more, you will highlight red, and will be vulnerable to attack.
Stat loss will still depend on the standard murder counter.
Another new counter we term "pingpong" will be added.
This counter increases each time you go red.
If this counter reaches five, you will be permanently red (meaning, you will be attackable. You will not suffer stat loss unless your murder count is also high).
This counter does not decay.
Murder will seriously affect your karma.
This is why blue pking is such a problem here unlike it was back in the day...

There is no real reason to not kill a person farming with your blue character in fear of turning red. There are no consequences for ping ponging blue and red like there was back in the day. Why not just pop in and kill a farmer and snag some easy cash macroing those hours away with very little ease and repeating.

It would be nice if PKs were red and violets were blue

lol faust.. perma red wont stop it, the tamer i linked earlier has never gone red.

We kill until we are at 3-4 counts and wait off the time before killing again.

I agree with the above, permared would not eliminate bluepking, but it would make pks who go back an forth eventually go red...I'd still like to see it added tho, as it seems to go along with the entire longterm count system.

But again, even if you can leave your client running 24/7 and be able to relog shortly after server restart every day...you can kill slightly less than one innocent every day and a half. Once longterm murder counts were added, I no longer saw blue pks as being much of a problem on this server.

I never said it would eliminate it completely. However, it will remove a good majority of it. It takes 40 hours to macro off a long term(what determines if you go red or not). Those that blue pk(like that tamer) and macro those 40 hours off is killing far in between. But those that are doing it and turning red, macroing, and repeating it are doing it more frequently since they know they can simply macro away with very little effort or penalty.

Yes, it will still be possible to blue pk but will require someone to macro 40 or more hours off depending on the situation no matter what unless they want to add a +1 to their perma red counter.

i always thought perma red must've applied to short term counts. on oceania, myself and many other players used the same characters from t2a all the way through to 2003. the pvp scene was consistently the same players for those whole 3-4 years. i swear i must have gone red more than 5 times, as well as many of the other players. i never went into stat loss ("innocent will wreak havoc")

probably wrong about that though, and have no evidence whatsoever. anyone who played the official servers after they introduced the ping-pong count (i must consider my wins) would know

Short term counts determine if a character is in stat loss and are only 8 hours until decay.

Long term counts are 40 hours until decay and determine if a character is red or not.

The perma red/ping pong counter that does not decay only builds when you shift from blue to red.

All counters trigger when they hit a count of 5. This means if you have 5 short term counts you're in stat loss, 5 long terms mean your character will be red, and 5 perma red/ping pong counts the character will be red from that point on.

Watch out for a blue named Biff Tanfingers. Tried to get me in Shame one day. He was Respectable then and I saw him yesterday and he was Illustrious. Maybe he just sucks at PKin?

yeah, I'm aware how short/long term counts work. i was just questioning whether anyone has actually seen the game mechanic of ping-pong in action. i've never seen any article actually specifically state whether ping pong used short or long term as its reference. I have seen people on the official servers go blue->red->blue so often, I figured it must've applied to short terms. also remember short term counts were introduced before long term counts ever existed (when was ping pong introduced?).

Read post #17 in this thread for the introduction of perma red.

Oh, those are actual OSI patch notes?
Murder will seriously affect your karma.
It's unfortunate there is pretty much no conclusive evidence on the karma system. The guy who wrote the karma article on stratics simply didn't understand how murdering was affecting his karma. I followed it closely on OSI and am certain I actually know how it worked, which I have posted before multiple times.

Is it not possible to find this out from the demo? Receiving a murder count should send you into negative karma regardless of your current karma level. Also, you should not receive karma from killing murderers. This is a complete RunUO shard thing. Res killing murderers has never been a way to raise your karma, the same way as res killing blues was never a way to lower it.

Which reminds me, there's a bug on UOSA. I always get the negative karma message when I ressurrect ("thou hast strayed from the path of virtue, but thy still deservest a second chance), despite the fact that my title is Illustrious. Liches also give too much karma (it was nearly impossible to get rank 4 karma from them, if it was at all possible). The amount of fame/karma liches gave was increased after UO:R

I just started playing about a week ago and have not had a problem with Blue PK's , but I do get PK'ed evertime I try to farm Ophids, Dragons etc..

It seems there are blues there farming also then recall out and bring in there red and kill me, red recalls out and blue comes back.

I guess it's fun for them, I just want to try to get some money going to develop my Chars :-(

You could definitely get to Illustrious from Liches..
[14:17] <UOSAPlayer4056> cr3w guild is a joke. Ran by staff members, multi client pking, this shards a joke and a half.
