Provocation / Tamer

Post by Herroth »

Hey guys this is my first real attempt at a Tamer type character i want to know if im doing it right so far so im going to list the skills i've selected and what they are at.

Animal Lore : 78.9
Animal Taming : 50.3
Magery : 50.0
Musicianship : 99.3
Provocation : 47.9
Resisting Spells : 25.2
Veterinary : 29.6

Str 44 Aiming for 100 (Herding to get it up)
Dex 28 Aiming for 25
Int 62 Aiming for 100 (No idea how to raise this)

I've died twice, once while macroing animals at Moonglow Zoo, and once macroing in a place i thought was safe.. obviously not, i've lost reagents, money and my musical instruments a few times.

I don't know if any of you are experainced with this build but it would be great if you could give me a few hints and tips how to raise this character reletivaly fast as im looking to become a good tamer , this will be my main character also.

Thanks for reading :)

Looks like you started with 50 Taming and 50 Magery.

You shouldn't ever have to worry about losing instruments. If you start a new character with even 1.0 skill in Provocation, Music, Peacemaking, etc., you will start with a newbie instrument that you will not lose when you die (if it is in your main pack) and it will never "wear out" or break. Likewise, if you start a character with Herding, you get a newbie shepherd's crook.

So, I'd suggest making a new character, and starting him with some measure of skill in Herding and a music skill. Take this character, go to a provisioner and buy a bag, and put all his items in them. Then hide the bag in a safe place and log out. Log in with your music/tamer and grab the bag and put the instrument and shepherd's crook in your main pack.

Now you can macro Herding to raise your STR to 100, and you will never have to buy an instrument again.

I will say one thing on your template, which is that the ceiling of how good it can get is somewhat low. Provocation is not terribly helpful to a tamer with dragons - why bother having two demons fight each other while your dragons rip them apart, when you can simply let your dragons rip them apart? You're better off with peacemaking (and, that's a better skill for taming monsters too). And even then... you absolutely, positively need meditation and wrestling on a tamer. Meditation for gating your pets around, healing yourself and your pets, etc., and wrestling because you'll just die to PKs very frequently without it.

No no no. Keep the character you have (unless you want to change your name or something). I just said make a new character to give the newbie crook and instrument to your current character.

Since you've already began this character, I'd suggest you keep going on it. Provocation is very useful on your template at the beginning because it's a great money-making skill. So it's useful to GM it in a couple days of macroing, then go out and earn some money to buy reagents to raise Magery, Wrestling, etc. Here's an outline of what I would do if I were you, assuming this is your only character. Bear in mind I'm somewhat of a powergamer, so this is one of the fastest ways to do things. Might not be the most enjoyable for you. Alter as necessary.

1) make a new character with some skill in music and herding. Buy a bag, put the newbie crook and instrument in it, and hide it somewhere. Log out, log in with your provo/tamer and grab the items out of the bag and put them in your main backpack. You'll now never lose them.

2) Macro the following skills: Herding (to raise STR to 100), Lore skills (Animal Lore, Arms Lore, Item ID, etc) to hit 100 INT. Only Animal Lore is needed on your final character. Macro Hiding to GM (it's just useful to have; it should be the last skill you drop down once you have 600+ points in your skills your final template will contain). Macro Provocation to GM.

3) Use Provocation to earn yourself some gold.

4) GM Wrestling (or close to it) via a hired NPC fighter.

5) Use Provocation to earn yourself more gold.

6) Buy a horse. Buy reagents. Buy spells. Set up some hotkeys for Recall, Heal spells, etc. Buy some pouches and trap them. Buy a keg of Yellow and Red potions and carry a few with you. Buy a few footstools and set a macro for them (forum search if you don't know why you'd need any of this stuff).

6) GM Magery (or get close).

7) GM Taming (search for my guide on what to tame & where).
