Hiding, stealth, reveal

Post by QniDopi »

I'm wondering what is exactly the effect of the reveal spell casted at someone with hiding and stealth. I mean, if i have 100 hiding and 100 stealth do i get something more when someone tries to reveal me (not only via the spell) - remain hiden further away from the point where the spell was casted or bigger chance to remain unrevealed.
What's the formula for the mage, and does it matter if the spell is casted EXACTLY on the spot where you are or as long as you are in the range it doesn't matter and only the skillcheck is made.

Currently reveal has a 100% chance to reveal someone who is stealthed or hiding, regardless of the caster's magery level or the hider's skill level.

Detect hidden is actually calculated between the detector's skill and the hider's skill, so you have a better chance of not being detected by detect hidden versus reveal.

There is a range on the reveal spell, which is tied to magery I think (like maybe 1 tile per 20 points of magery? I could be making that up).

If someone is hidden within the range though, they are always revealed, as far as I can tell. At GM magery, I'd reveal someone exactly on my cursor or a few tiles out, every time.

And probably no matter how lame this interaction between magery and hiding and stealth it won't be "repaired" the way it should be? I hope i'm wrong..

Why someone with 100 skill (even less) points manages to hide better (invis has 100% chance to happen no matter how armored you are) while i need 100 points to do it.. (and can't do it while fighting) + mages have 100 reveal chance against someone who spared 200 skill points in hiding + stealth.. Shouldn't there be a chance or something.. C'mon, people who have magery fight with it, heal with it, teleport, crowd control, summon with it.. Why detect better then someone with GM in DH and has good hiding as someone who invested 100 points in it.. Also makes Tracking a bit useless too, why would you need an exact location after all..

Still the NEA sitiuation?

^ Well tracking isn't just for finding the exact location of someone. It's useful for tracking people who are far away from you (even if they're hiding). You'd never be able to blindly Wis Quas anyone 2 screens away from you.

And I would rather have gm hiding than gm magery + invis any day on my chars that need to hide a lot. Because invisibility doesn't last (you'll reveal), takes mana & reagents, has casting delay, makes a sound, etc.

And you're saying that magery has too many uses...Well it is a tough skill to gain (comparatively) and takes a lot of gold for reagents. With hiding you can GM that 1-2 nights afk macroing. What do you expect? I will agree with you that reveal on a mage is a bit too powerful, but that's about it. Hiding and tracking are still very useful skills. And in my opinion, hiding > invisibility if you're a thief, ambusher, stealther, etc. The only thing I like about invisibility is being able to disappear in combat. Also, I'd like to add detecting hidden has more uses than just reveal. You can find dungeon traps, trapped containers, use it 100% in your house. It's still a nice skill.

And probably no matter how lame this interaction between magery and hiding and stealth it won't be "repaired" the way it should be?
"The way it should be"? Is it supposed to be different?
