Hi, i want to ask if anyone is aware of the details of this skill. I'm GM Tracking, can't track anyone in town (can't even try) but out of town the range is satisfactional. In wiki I read that as GM i can track about 5 screens away (in tiles this must be about 50 or something like that). I can't measure it so is my logic write? - if I drop it to 80 i'll be able to track 4 screens (about 40 tiles maybe?) Or at 80 it becomes useless...
It might not look very usefull but for RP is great skill, just don't want to get stuck with useless stuff - can take 80 hiding if it's not worth it.Thanks in advance.

Re: Tracking
Tracking is the most underused and underappreciated skill in the game. It's not just for roleplaying; I killed 200+ people with my dexer in a very short amount of time, and never died once, largely due to high Tracking (finding victims, finding groups of people that might gang up on me, finding people's hidden archer turrets and hidden alts that "protect" them while they farm, etc).
What I did to test it's range was go out in the woods and track animals. I'd select the last animal on the list (the farthest one away) and then check my UOAM coordinates. Then I'd track down the animal. Of course, it could move a bit while I was finding it, but whatever. Once I found it, I would check my UOAM coordinates again. Figure out the difference in the X and the Y and then use the good ol' Pythagorean formula (WHEN AM I EVER GOING TO USE THIS, SRSLY OMG I HATE SCHOOL) X^2 + Y^2 = Z^2. Z would be the range of tracking at your skill level.
Do this a few times to get a good sample, then just look at the max value you get for it in your tests.
Choosing between Tracking and Hiding, if you can have one at 80 and one at GM, I'd put hiding at GM. 80 Tracking is more than serviceable, and I'd say 4 screens is a good estimate.

Re: Tracking
Is 60 Tracking of any use? And at 60 (or even 80), are the chances of finding people worth the points (knowing that the distance is shortened respectively).
Gone to greener pastures.
Re: Tracking
Yes. Even 20 Tracking can be useful, if you're chasing a GM Hider who you want to kill. If they get 8+ tiles from you, they can hide in plain sight. And it's tougher than you think to try to step on them and figure out where they are. Even GM mages can have trouble finding a stealther with the Reveal spell. But, 21 tracking or so is enough to spot anyone on your screen with a high % chance of success.
I'd find a way to get it to 75 or higher though, just for the increased range. It's well worth it to find murderers hidden while they're AFK, find people waiting in trap, to check the next level down in a dungeon for players without actually walking down there and being spotted, etc.
Don't take my word for it though. Test it yourself. Get it up to 75 or so, and play with it for a week. See how you like it.
