I can't figure out how to get enough gold on the test server, any help with that?

on test there is a bank check for 1 million gp that is in your bank box when you start. just double click it for all the gold to be deposited in your bank box. also, if you are trying to place on test, make sure to place the adjacent houses as well. also be aware that house placement rules are not exactly the same on test as they are on the regular server
