PK's

Post by Butt Pirate »

Let me preface this by saying that I'm all for pking. i think the fact that you can attack whoever you want whenever you want is definitely one of the appeals of Ultima Online over the crap that is out there today. That being said, I don't understand why there are so many PK's on this server who want to grief new players. I don't think I can go to any dungeon on this shard for more than 30 minutes without being PK'd. I'm new so I'm obviously not going to be able to challange any of these PK's and I have nothing of real value to any player who has been playing for a significant amount of time. I understand the occasional PK is part of the game but why would the same PK sit in the dungeon and continually kill me when I come back for my horse? It's not fun for me, it can't be fun for them, and it probably makes people not want to play on this shard (which means they'll have even less people to kill). If you must PK me, fine do it. my 50 magery should really be able to strike you for like 10 damage. but then just leave me alone. don't grief me.

I spent a lot of my money grinding all over the world, and not just in dungeons. You have to think like a pk would... or at least, what you would do had you already completed one.

Bandits, Orc Forts, Graveyards... the list goes on. I died many times, still do. You just have to be smart about it and say to yourself, ill only come back here on occasion for certain loots. Don't waste your time at the same place simply because it's the quickest one to get too.

Also, most pk's won't pick on ya like that unless they have TG in there tag

Look, if you have 50 magery, carry a recall scroll and run with reflect on. As soon as you see a pk start recalling out with your scroll, you won't fail and their first spell will reflect, you'll be gone by the time they cast a second one.

You wouldn't go into a dungeon unprepared for the specific creatures that you are farming, well, don't go in unprepared for pks. Take a trapped pouch or two and some pots if need be, just make sure that you can get away.

I've also hated it when a griefer sucks the joy out my gaming experience. But overtime I've learned to not get so worked up about a game. And I understand why they do what they do. I suggest joining an active guild that can protect you, or at the least don't solo in pk hot spots. If you need gold, come to town and play one of my many games. There's no better way to make fast gold in the safety of town.

The #1 thing that helped me was staying the hell out of Brit GY as a noob. Sure it's close to town, but so many ppl go there that you are sure to be messed with. #2 would probably be to keep reflect up. Keeping potions and explosion pouches aren't bad substitutes for those without magery.

As for why there are so many pks and blue pks, I have a theory. People who played back in the day probably aren't coming back for crafting, most are either here for PvM or PvP. Other MMO's offer PvM up the wazoo, but really weak PvP. Why play if not to fight?

The fact that you get to live in a world where everyone could be a potential enemy, should be exciting enough for everyone to enjoy. But instead, what usually happens is those enemies try to show you what there experiences have been like... think of it like pay it forward. But, not in a good way.

All I can tell you is that people in general are assholes. If you don't like assholes, don't play these types of games. Not to insult any of you, it's just that... those same people that are griefing you, have had to go thru it at some point in there UO career. Think of it as your turn, instead of "They're always interfering with my progress!"

All good suggestions guys thank you. I'll try to follow your suggestions. I haven't played this game in a long time so I'm still figuring out the strategy again. I don't mind being PK'd I just don't like being griefed. See you out there.
