When I initially started, I created a "miner" to gather up some gold. (He has GM mining, 50 tinkering) (originally planned on Gm'ing tink/BS on this char)
I created my "crafter" later and that character is now...
100 Inscription
100 Magery
100 Meditation
100 Tailoring
100 Carpentry
50 alchemy (plan on raising but could drop)
100 Item ID (plan on dropping this)
I want to have BS on my "crafter" but I would have 0 mining. Do many chars have BS on a character that is not a miner, I heard you get significant gains from smelting?
Looking at it now I figure I should get tinkering up on my "crafter" and BS on my miner possibly later. I wish I created a miner/blacksmith originally like a normal person.
Anyone have any insights on my thoughts/questions? Thanks in advance for any help/consideration.

Re: Crafter and Gatherer Help
While you don't need mining for doing smithing, it'll really make it cheaper to get to GM. Mining affects how many ingots you get back from smelting an item. Typically, when you go to GM Smithing, you smelt everything you make to get the most out of your ingots. There's likely a slower route where you make things that sell decently to NPC vendors, so you can help pay for more ingots. I've no idea what that method is though.
If you're going to supply your smith with mining on another character, I guess this would work fine. However, if you're going to start selling GM armor, your ingots used-to-profit will be a bit off. At GM Smithing, I still hate making gorgets. If I couldn't smelt the non-exceptional ones, I'd hate them even more.

Re: Crafter and Gatherer Help
No, that makes sense.
I guess I just wanted to be able to make the carpentry stuff that requires blacksmithing.
(I have no dexxer and don't really care to make a BS at this point)
I figure I'll get tinkering instead and if eventually I am looking to make a BS I would raise it on my current miner. Thanks
