lockpicking oddity
Ok, so I have two characters with lockpicking, the first one went to 94.7 real on a gm box like it's supposed to, the second one seems to have stalled at 93.8, he has enough skill points and all that, nothing obvious to cause it. Any ideas why there would be almost a point worth of difference?
I've let the macro run for a while now, it's working fine, lockpicks have stopped breaking though and it seems to have stopped gaining here.

100 Dex vs 25 Dex?
Are you sure this new box is GM?

Not sure what you mean about the dex, it's at 77 right now.. haven't finalized the stats at all because im just macroing stuff up.I am pretty sure the box is gm, it got me to 93.8 real.Mikel123 wrote:100 Dex vs 25 Dex?

So basically, both chars have stopped at 95 shown, the only difference is real stops at 93.8.
Thanks in advance.

Max lockpicking you can gain off a GM lockbox is 95 shown (which is 94.7 real.)
Detect hidden adds a bonus to lockpicking; chances are you prob have GM detect hidden, which should've put your lockpicking at around 94.9 or 95 shown (93.8 real.)
You basically screwed yourself out of .9 macro-able skill by GMing detect hidden first, but then it wouldn't matter because you wouldn't need GM lockpicking to pick a lvl 5 with GM detect hidden.

Ah ok, thanks for the explanation this makes sense.Hicha wrote:Max lockpicking you can gain off a GM lockbox is 95 shown (which is 94.7 real.)

So essentially though, with gm detect lockipicking will function like gm?
Re: lockpicking oddity
From what I could tell, it's all in the DEX. I was able to macro to 95 shown (and somewhere like 93.5 real) lockpicking off a GM lockbox -- with 100 dex. I then proceeded to drop my DEX all the way down to 11, which caused my Lockpicking SHOWN to drop from 95.0 to 94.0.
I was then able to macro back up to 95 shown (94.8 REAL) with my character at 11 dex. So keep your dex low or you will lose out on macroable skill!

I'm betting on the dex too.wimastyle wrote:From what I could tell, it's all in the DEX. I was able to macro to 95 shown (and somewhere like 93.5 real) lockpicking off a GM lockbox -- with 100 dex. Smelly, do your chars have different dex? Stats will modify "shown" skills. And "shown" skills are basically what the game checks when you use/gain skill. So you should always go by the "shown skill" when you are gaining skill (so that you can gauge when to advance to different methods). Both of your chars are at 95.0 shown, which is why you won't gain anymore on those boxes. The real skill does not matter at this point. Again, I think the stats are what is modifying the shown skill in your two chars.
Re: lockpicking oddity
Tested it again on test server:
With 10 dex, 94.0 real is 94.1 shown. 94.9 real is 95 shown.
With 25 dex, 94.0 real is 94.3 shown. 94.7 real is 95 shown.
With 100 dex, 94.0 real is 95.5 shown. 93.4 real is 95 shown.
Dex definitely affects how high you can get with lockpicking, and you're definitely better off waiting to raise dex until after you've hit the lockpicking cap of 95 shown by using GM boxes.
