Skill questions

Post by littlboz »

After writing this I realize it is a lot, feel free to only respond to what you feel able to.

I am new to second age and it seems very strange and exciting for me. I am starting off really simple, just a pure mace character but to help me build a good template and know the general workings of the game I need some skill questions answered.

These seem like useless skills what good are they?
-cooking
-fishing
-herding
-begging
-camping
-Detect Hidden (I think this actually is helpful but I am wondering if it does anything other then the implied)
-Spirit speak
-tracking
(I also think all the skills in the Lore and knowledge section are useless too, except for anatomy, and evaluating intelligence. In this era though you can't see a weapons stats and what not, very mysterious which I like and find intriguing. How do you go about figuring a weapons stats though? Do you use arms lore?)

What in the world are these skills?
-Imbuing
-mysticism
-Spellweaving
-Throwing
(as I'm typing this I have a feeling that these skills are ones from later clients that are just simply residue)

Do these applications and bonuses apply to this era?
Alchemy - do you need poisoning to make the strongest type of poison potion?
Lockpicking - Anything I can't lock pick? ;-)
Lumberjacking - Does it give the bonus damage when I wear a axe-swordsmanship?
Poisoning - Maximum poison means you do more poison damage right?
Anatomy - Improves damage, healing with bandages, and helps dodging blows in empty-handed
Evaluating int - Improves spell damage and helps in dodging blows in empty-handed combat
Inscription - improves spell damage
Arms lore - disarms the opponent

-cooking Cooking food. Not being funny, that's it.
-fishing Catching fish and footwear at lower levels - fishing up various other items like treasure maps and messages in bottles at higher levels
-herding Persuading animals to move. It canhave some uses, but not much.
-begging Pretty much pointless unless you're a roleplayer or bored enough to want a new skill to try out.
-camping Lets you log out safely away from inns or home. Without camping your character will remain 'in world' for a few minutes after you've logged out.
-Detect Hidden (I think this actually is helpful but I am wondering if it does anything other then the implied) Detects hidden people and traps. A skill of 0 will always work in your home.
-Spirit speak Lets you understand ghosts. If a ghost is speaking to you it's only 'res me pls' or abuse so you don't need this skill.
-tracking This is very useful imho, lets you know who's around whether they're hidden or not. I sometimes use it with a housebound character to check the area before I come home with valuables on another character for example.
(I also think all the skills in the Lore and knowledge section are useless too, except for anatomy, and evaluating intelligence. Arms Lore and Item ID will tell you all about weapons. You don't get numbers though, just descriptions.

Your bracketed text is correct.

Do these applications and bonuses apply to this era?
Alchemy - do you need poisoning to make the strongest type of poison potion? No.
Lockpicking - Anything I can't lock pick? ;-) House doors, secure containers. Maybe some other containers I'm not sure.
Lumberjacking - Does it give the bonus damage when I wear a axe-swordsmanship? No
Poisoning - Maximum poison means you do more poison damage right? No. But it does give a higher chance of poisoning the opponent when striking a blow.
Anatomy - Improves damage, healing with bandages, and helps dodging blows in empty-handed Yes, yes, no. Wrestling is the empty handed combat skill, whether defensive or offensive.
Evaluating int - Improves spell damage and helps in dodging blows in empty-handed combat Yes, no.
Inscription - improves spell damage No.
Arms lore - disarms the opponent No.

For more details on any skills have a look here - http://wiki.uosecondage.com/?title=Main_Page or the forum guides section - http://forum.uosecondage.com/viewforum.php?f=9

No skills are useless, just useless to some play styles
