That is a very good point.MatronDeWinter wrote:Umm,
Fencing is the best dexer style melee skill. I even have a tank-fencer, because short spears are so cheap and I can run around with a +20 vanq all the time for pennies. Not to mention that the weapon cycling is a bit faster because of the increased weapons speed.
The war fork is a people killer, especially when your opponent has high armor.
The kryss is great for scaring off all of the little tank-mage types in the land.
I really dont see how you could think it's nerfed![]()
As for archery, I am really looking forward to the proposed weapon swing changes, so we can finally end this hally-matic pvp, where did this even come from? Archery should be much better whenever that change happens. The damage on archery is very nice too. My two main pvp type characters are fencers and archers.
Is fencing nerfed on this shard?

Aye, all bladed and piercing weapons can be poisoned. I know they changed this either at the end of T2A or shortly after.Joueur Moyen wrote:So, Derrick, we can poison halberds? WOOT! (It's starting to come back to me that UO:R was the single handed poisoned weapons change, but I was wrong about t2a, so...)

If you play a warrior right they are powerful...
Fencing is probably the strongest weapon skill for killing mages, easily. That's not to say macing isn't as good, but currently the way the mechanics are the kryss will rehit much faster. With a mace you gotta have agilities or you will have a slight delay before your time is going.
Next patch warriors are going to be even better than they are right now if all goes well. This is because the cycling will work different for both mages and warriors. You can cycle while moving so there will be no noticeable "delay" for macers. But fencing is still all around the fastest, but fencing weapons(vanq and power) are pricey so it's balanced. They are also hardest to find.
Warriors are not weak, I really want to point this out. I have had some devastating battle wounds after fighting warriors with vanq kryss, vanq war axe, or vanq katana. It just depends on how the warrior is equipped and how well he is at utilizing his equipment and makes sure to keeps his stamina refreshed. Explo pots also help for running mages. I've even met a few warriors who utilized teleport rings quite well to attempt to cut off a running mage in a dungeon corridor, that's awesome keep it up.

Thanks for all the info, folks, good stuff.
Re: Is fencing nerfed on this shard?
Somewhat on topic.
How well do any of you think a fencing med/eval warrior would do? I understand macing is usually reserved for this template for various reasons, but I am somewhat curious as to the viability of playing a character like this. I even thought out a template:
100s/85d/40i
100 - Fencing, tactics, healing, anat.
90 - resist.
75 - magery, eval.
60 - med
Med at 60 could most likely be worthless, specially with armor on, but it should still help with some form of mana regen. Higher eval would help with damage output, since that is what the template would have to be about. I'm not sure how far DP goes in pvp here, but I think it would be a great bonus.
Anyone have some thoughts on this?

Re: Is fencing nerfed on this shard?
I would probably drop med and GM the rest. You have bandaids and potions to fall back on while your mana regenerates.
Re: Is fencing nerfed on this shard?
That is definitely doable, I was just thinking of med in terms of faster damage output.MatronDeWinter wrote:I would probably drop med and GM the rest. You have bandaids and potions to fall back on while your mana regenerates.

Re: Is fencing nerfed on this shard?
Well, your going to be a dexer first, and a mage last. Probably just using it for a kill shot, an emergency heal, and possibly an opener. Without wrestle, you really wont be doing too much casting.
Re: Is fencing nerfed on this shard?
Agree. By damage output I meant more spells faster.

Re: Is fencing nerfed on this shard?
I have encountered 2 deadly PKs on here that were fencers. Thats probably the reason I switched from swords to fencing on my dexxer. One pk murdered my mage with a kryss after I went after him and this was after I hooked up with another blue to try to kill him. Granted my wrestling was like 50, I couldnt get a spell off. The second fencer had a war fork, probably of vanq and hit me once for like 50 hp. I recalled immediately.
Re: Is fencing nerfed on this shard?
fencing owns as a dexxer skill. war forks can do some serious damage for something that swings so fast.

Re: Is fencing nerfed on this shard?
Swords is probably a little better against an armored opponent, because you can bring more high-end damage weapons, which are more powerful against armored opponents.
Armor reduces damage by a fixed amount... let's say someone's armor reduces damage by 10 hp. A viking sword that does 20 against an unarmored opponent will do 10 against this opponent, whereas a war fork which would do 18 damage against a naked opponent will do 8. So the viking sword does only 11% more damage than the war fork against a naked opponent, but does 25% more damage against an armored opponent! That more than makes up for the speed handicap of being slower than the war fork, and you can see how the viking sword, though slow as hell, could actually do more damage than a war fork over time).
I also think swing speed is less important in dex-vs-dex fights, where everyone just kind of runs in a circle at each other, even though they both want to hit each other, for no apparent reason.
Swing speed is much more important against mages, where you can get two chances to interrupt an energy bolt or greater heal, if you get up to them right as they begin casting. Faster weapon means more likely to get two swings to try to interrupt. So, fencing (kryss) is much better.
Personally, since dex-vs-dex fights are boring and kind of a war of attrition, I focused on the matchup against mages, and went with fencing.

Re: Is fencing nerfed on this shard?
Used to be War Forks disregarded armor and did their full damage (unless caught by a shield). Is that not the case on this server?Mikel123 wrote:Swords is probably a little better against an armored opponent, because you can bring more high-end damage weapons, which are more powerful against armored opponents.

Re: Is fencing nerfed on this shard?
You know all throughout my time playing this game I heard that this was the case, that war forks and crossbows ignored armor, but I never really saw the evidence.
