I remember reading the PVP Tamer article that Kavian found, which was used to make an argument for a bunch of changes to how taming and animal control works in a recent patch. I've tried for a bit, but I can't seem to re-locate that article, only posts referring to it. If anyone could post a link for me, I'd really appreciate it.
But anyway, the reason I'm posting is that I remember the article referencing the power of bears in PVP. It said something along the lines of "you might not realize it, but most mages are powerless against grizzly bears".
So here's my question for you mages out there: Are you powerless against bears? My guess is no. If we looked at that article as a source of era-accurate info, then should we not consider every claim it makes? If we agree that mages are not powerless against grizzlies, then how do we explain the author's position?
a) he didn't know what he was talking about? (sounds a little harsh)
b) he was trying to make young tamers feel more secure all alone out there, when not yet skilled enough to roll with fire-breathers?
b) the mages of his time were less potent than ours, sans-razor, GM skills not being the absolute norm like they are here, etc?
What do you guys think?
I'm not trying to challenge White Wyrm speed or anything stated in the article. I've just had my interest peaked by this little tid-bit, that's all.
Bears in PVP?

Bears in this era are supposed to warp to your target.
When i was searching for information on All Kill I came across several sources saying how polar bears would warp to their target.

Re: Bears in PVP?
in the mage essay from era, the guy claims there are 2 ways to pvp as a grandmaster mage
1. the ebolt method.
remove your targets reflect and then bust out the corp pors. do it until he dies. if the pk isn't dead, whip our your katana.
2. the energy vortex method.
simply drop an EV next to your target, and he will die. this works with up to 2 pks. if there are more than 2 pks, recall out.
kinda makes you wonder how much you should listen to *any* opinion article from 99

now what's wrong on UOSA? why aren't PKs dying to ebolt spam or energy vortexes?
because there to busy getting pwned by bears. duh
Re: Bears in PVP?
It was the taming archive's Pvp essay.
Slow ping + packet loss + 70.2 wrestling + unlagged bears +no razor hotkeys/macros= tough time fighting off bears.
Also note that the taming archive is a bunch of pretty casual (in terms of pvp), but detail-oriented, players. If they're "pvping" someone, and that someone doesn't kill them in 10 seconds, then yeah - that person is probably pretty poor at pvp. And it wouldn't surprise me if they had trouble dealing with bears.
