Welcome!

barding is the cheapest way to make decent cash. macro up provoking/musicianship at one of the town stables. once you got a bit of gold, do your magery.

There are a few guilds that offer new players temporary housing. check the guilds forums for details. Most people aren't likely to hand you a stack of gold, but they will help you out

Start with 50 magery/resist(if you're doing resist). Buy an instrument. Macro music and provoke until GM. Go to a dungeon or graveyard where you don't have to worry about healing very often to make a small amount of cash to fill up your spellbook with some required spells(recall, gheal, etc..) and reagents. Start farming in places that yield decent loot based on your preference. Risky places such as Destard and Deceit but be alert for PKs to recall. Medium Risky places such as wrong, shame, etc.. take longer. Very little risky places like graveyards and above world spawns don't have as many PKs strolling through. Using a bard is very simple and doesn't cost very much at all. You should be able to get your main going in no time.

or just start with

49 magery
50 resist
1 music / peacemaking / provocation

saves a slot

Hello there, and welcome.

Indeed a bard is one of the fastest ways to make cash. A good template for a mage bard, IMO, would be:

GM Music
GM Provo
GM Magery
GM Wrestling
GM Eval Int
GM Meditation
GM Resist

I'd pick Provo and Magery as my two starting skills, if for no other reason than the rest are relatively simple/inexpensive to get to 50.

Start out at Moonglow, go to the zoo, and start a macro to provo an animal onto yourself. Between Provo tries have the macro play your instrument a couple of times so that you can gain music meanwhile. Remember that a failed provo attempt has a wait period of 5 secs, whereas a successful provo attempt has a wait period of 10 seconds. You might want to take that into consideration in your macro (if sys msg "XXX"; pause 5s; if sys msg "YYY"; pause 10s). Leave this macro overnight and while you're at school/work etc.

Next find a dummy and hit it for a while to increase your wrestling, up to around 30.

After 24 hrs you should have a somewhat useful bard. Go to Occllo, provo all the wild stuff onto each other. Be sure to check the bank's bulletin board for notices of missing persons and go free them. After a couple of hours of this you should have enough money to buy some 700 lightning regs, and 1,500 e-bolt regs, and buy resist up to 30 skill points from a mage NPC. Don't forget to continue practicing your music provo in the zoo in your downtime until you GM. When you do, move on to Eval Int. Easiest way to do it is to Alt + click a town guard to follow him, and just spam Eval Int on him. This will take some time, but it's worth it to get better Resist gains when macroing magery.

Find a safe house to macro in (look up Theograd, Brules or Phallax for that), cast a couple of fire fields and run along them until you get your resist around 55. Then start working your magery and resist.

After that, You'll still be far from finished, but you'll have a more than capable bard that can start making you decent amounts of money. The whole process should take you no more than 3 or 4 days.

Sent you a PM if you should have any further questions.

EDIT: DO NOT start with 50 resist as, I repeat, it is quite simple to get your resist to 55 while running through fire field, and definitely have music as one of your 3 starting skills (with at least 1 point) to get that newbied instrument.

That would actually be better.. my bard lost his newbie instruments back when they could be worn out. I forgot all about the newbie instruments.

Personally I would take resist off, as it can be bought, then macroed to 50 very quickly using fire field.
Plus you can get some magery gains off of it!
