sorry new guy, son only tells people this so he has more people to kill on a regular basis. A good way to fund a new fencer (I assume dexxer?) is to gather resources through mining or lumberjacking to pay for hirelings and bandaids to macro your melée and healing skills up with. There is a good market for iron ingots here and there is a much smaller risk of dying while resource gathering than making a newbie bard to get eaten by pks all day.

If you don't feel like resource gathering you can always shear sheep and pick cotton for bandaids to macro while killing easy spawns to obtain gold to pay hirelings. If you need further help you can always jump in irc where there are usually plenty of people around to answer new player questions.

The easiest way is a bard, prove me wrong. You can make 60k an hour by macroing a char in 2 days, with ZERO gold startup.

Sure you might get pked, its UO not trammel.

As a new startup - I have to agree with son - bards are a nice way to start.

For me, a bard was a great way to get into the game, make money quick, and learn lots along the way. Within a few days, he had made enough money to gm magery/resist. From there, I was able to get away from PKs about 90% of the time.

Do a little digging about macroing music/provo, and you will be set! From there it all just works out.

We all know UO is about risk vs reward.

If you want more of a reward you will have to take those risks of getting pk'd. However, if you want to take the more safe but slower route go with a crafter. It's simply based on what and how you want to play the game.

The quickest way to get fast cash is by using a bard but it's more risky.

Best way to start, is hooking up with [NEW]!!! They will help you become whatever you want, every step of the way.

make a bard on a separate account while you run around fighting monsters on your fencer. once the bard is trained, money for training wont be an issue.

Although I started with swords, I'd just hang around the Jhelom cemetary and fight skeletons and similar stuff. You'll gain like mad and it's right near the city limits if you need to run for it - from either PK's or monsters. If I recall correctly there are magic casters that ya might gain resist from. Gravitate to higher end stuff from there and if you can make it to Delucia you can harvest wool and cotton in town and sell it.

Almost all new swords guys I have had started in Jhelom and I've never hired an NPC fighter. There could be some adequate gear to be found laying around the bank also. Good luck.

I worked my PVM dexer by fighting overland spawns around Ocllo. Lots of spawn, NPCs to rescue, very little risk.

Hey there, welcome to UOSA = )

I recommend making either a bard or warrior.

Also, do this if you haven't already. Uncheck "use smart CPU usage reduction" because it's a bad option if your computer is okay running UO. It slows fast computers down

After unchecking that, restart UO and razor and it will run smoother.

you'll gm wep skills fastest by hitting the weakest possible thing you can find (aka the thing with the lowest weapon skill). i literally gmed my swords/tac/wrestle on my newest char from a llama i was vetting, which took about 8 hours total for all 3 skills. i gmed wrestle on a timberwolf the time before that, and it definitely took longer than vs the llama. next time i'm going to try vs a cow or a dog, but i don't think they have enough hp.
<green> grats pink and co. .... the 3 of you f---ing scrubs together can blow up a bard. IMPRESSIVE

Start up the macroing on the bard. (moonglow zoo)

Make a townie on another account (you can have 3 accounts).

Go hunt in the wilderness with the townie - monsters spawn everywhere. Thats a lot safer than hitting up the GY's and other known hunting areas.

From the money you make here you can start up a mage on your 3rd account or save up for a small house.

Dont buy cloth for bandages. Gather wool/flax and shear sheep and make the cloth yourself - it will save you tons of money.

I just prefer it as it is more interesting and a way to make a buck right from the start - with added risk. I'd also echo the guy who mentioned Occlo - it has stuff to fight everywhere whether the loot be leather or gold. Kill some mongbats so you can buy some minimal hiding and/or magery skills for healing.

The other thread going on now makes it sound like its impossible to get going here if you are a total noob to UO. All you have to do is stay out of harms way for a couple days by reading a few of these threads. How many PK's do you run into that hang in places where a greater mongbat is you're target?
