Blade Spirits and Energy Vortexes, what's the story?

How come whenever I cast these stupid things they refuse to target monsters? Is there a trick to this at all or am I wasting my time casting these when I farm? I've been fighting high end stuff, Blood eles, Dragons, Drakes, but these spells aren't functioning correctly. They always target me and if I invis they just bob around and don't retarget anythign else.

Yeah, unfortunately, BS and EV got a serious lobotomy, and are now about 3 steps below retarded.

It's funny, actually this quote is very 1999. Although seriously, it should be more like them targeting the caster half the time. But same basic effect... people going "wtf?!"

I just cast the EV and run around in a fashion that will cause the EV/monster to move into 1 tile range of each other, it's not very difficult.

This is the problem. Why should they detect players but not monsters at that range.

that was how it worked.. i have no idea why. if you were trapping a mob to drop and ev but missed it being withint 1 tile it would attack the nearest player..

so noto pks would try to stand closer to the mob than the farmer and hope it would attack them, then they would kill the now grey ev caster..

the ev's and fields created a whole niche of pvp's lol

in all honesty, it said that in the manual and stratics, but i never really experienced that. you could get a blade/ev to attack anything if you did it right. maybe it was changed from the time the manual was written, i only started playing in april '99.

It would be nice to hear from someone familiar with the code to see if EV/BS do agro based on INT/STR.
I thought EVs damaged or poisioned (cant remember) anything that is on an adjacent tile. It would damage it, then have a memory of that mob? If this is true then perhaps that has something to do with why they only go after the mob if you cast right next to it. IDK, its the only reason I can come up with.

^What he says.^ I've been wrecking brigand and orc camps with blade spirits, the ones with a prisoner and chest, the last couple of days and it's not much slower than before - haven't read any patch updates.

I cast, run right into the middle of everything while being targeted, and then a few steps later hide. Do it a couple more times and by then everything is so close to death you just finish them off with your sword. Never been revealed and the blade spirits still kill pre-tamed critters and any tames that are around.
