Fishing

Post by Sadistica »

Hello all,

I am a miner and on any given day I can pull in about 8k/hr. I am considering picking up fishing on a bard I just finished macroing and, to be honest, I really have no interest in fishing other than to make money. So unless I can make a good chunk better than what I pull in per hour mining, I would probably just rather save the skill points on my bard for something else and stick with mining, which to some degree, I like.

1) From what I understand the only way you will make any money with fishing is to be GM? True/False?
2) Is the primary method of making money MiBs only?
3) How many MiBs should I expect to fish up per hour?? Average/Minimum/Maximum
4) How exactly does a MiB work? Is there a spawn to deal with? Need lockpicking? Is it as simple as just fishing it up and opening the chest??
5) What kind of loot can I expect from the chest? Or on the other hand, what an I expect to sell an unopened MiB for?
6) What kind of monsters can I expect as a fisherman. At the moment the only skills that kill for me are mage/med/music/provoke

Thanks!

1. You can make money selling fish and boots to NPCs, but most people take up fishing with the aim to get MiBs and maps.
2. That and maps.
3. People quote x-per hour amount figures, but it just seems random to me. I can pull up four in an hour or I can pull up none for three hours.
4. No spawn. You cast the line, get a chest and possibly some other shipwreck junk.
5. MiB chests contain gold, reagents, jewels, scrolls and various magic weapons and armor. The amount and quality of the magic items depends on the level of the chest. Level 1 is around 1k gold, level 2 around 2k gold and level 3 around 3k gold.
6. You may encounter spawn while sailing around, but rarely is it more than one at a time. Your barding skills probably wouldn't help much.

Just go provoking with your bard. You should be able to do better than 8k per hour even at lower level locations (places where you are unlikely to see many PKs). It's also more fun in my opinion.

Average seems to be 1 MiB and 1 map per hour. You can sell MiB's for 2.5k...maybe up to 3k per if you advertise adequately (I've seen huge demand for these lately, probably given the lack of supply), and I've seen fished up maps for anywhere between 350gps and 700gps.

Spawn will mostly consist of Sea Serps, Deep Sea Serps and Water Ellies. Deep Sea Serps can be tough (a single mana dump will most likely not kill it), and as someone said, barding will not help you there.

My advice is, unless you REALLY like to fish, use your bard to make money elsewhere and use those 100 skill points for resist or wrestling, or something that will get your bard out of a pickle.
