Question on newbied items

Post by Azural Kane »

If I'm correct Runebooks are not blessed/newbied here, right? Do folks carry just a few runes when out PVPing or what's the best way to roll?

Also, Spellbooks, are they newbied/blessed?

Runebooks are not newbied/blessed. I just carry a rune to a city bank with me when I'm out and about.

Spellbooks are blessed (maybe just newbied?) so are safe as long as in the top level of your backpack.

Thanks, also do pets follow you when dead or once they die they die?

Moreover I'm wondering if people bother with training pets here?

When pets die they're dead forever. The only things that can be resurrected in the game are player characters.

I don't know about training - only one of my chars uses a pet (horse). I'm sure someone else will be along with info...

Training pets isn't worth it, in my opinion. You could train dragons to cast level 6 spells like Dispel and Energy bolt, to boost their offense and defense. But I don't think it's worth the time or bandages, because their AI is awful and a couple of griefers can easily take it away from you to kill it. And at some point, they begin casting Mass Curse, which is the point at which they become useless in my eyes.

Further on this--Runebooks do have a pseudo-blessing to them. Which is to say, my tricorder believes that thieves can not directly target them from within your away mission pack. However, thieves may attempt to gamble at an estimated ratio of stealable items in your pack (S) + Runebook (R) over the base of 1, assuming 1 thief (T). Or S+R/T. If you'll look on my datapad here, that would mean if you had 9 direct target stealable items within your pack, plus 1 runebook, and one thief targeted you rather than snooping in your away mission pack--he has a 1 in 10 chance of getting your runebook. Pretty good for a lucky thief, LOL!

They are fully lootable, as mentioned above--watch out for pks, LOL!

Pets, like players, have skills in wrestling, tactics, resist, and the magic-casters have magery. They also have STR, DEX, and INT. Like players, using their skills will come with a chance of raising that skill, and its associated attribute(s). I think, though, that pets do not have a limit to their attributes. They do have a limit of 100.0 in skills however.

So, if you take two polar bears and have them fight each other, keeping them healed of course, they will eventually get to GM tactics and wrestling, and probably have a nice strength advantage over their freshly-spawned cousins. Likewise, each time a dragon attacks something with magery, it has a chance to gain in its skill. However, if it's say 55.0 magery, and it casts Magic Arrow, like players it will have no chance of a gain.

Bottom line though, in my opinion it's not worth training your pets. They just die too easily, even dragons. I've managed to use dragons to farm for long enough for them to noticeably gain combat skill and magery. But it doesn't happen often, and wouldn't be worth the bandages to try to set up a macro with them overnight to train ahead of time.

Put your runebook inside a subcontainer that weighs more than 11 stones and it is 100% unstealable.
