Trying to place a house

Post by Victor Horn »

I been playing week after week to save up my gold to buy a house. I finally got enough to buy a two story house with patio.
I went out looking for a good place to place my house, then after 3 days, I started to look for anywhere to place my house. Time after time, I found that not only could I not locate a place to place my house, but that most houses on the map say only slightly worn.
Well just the other day I some how got off my ship on the last island to check, but to my surprise. I could not return to my ship and the big kicker of it all. I forgot to drop anchor. So I could not dry dock my ship and try some where else to reboard. My ship has the house deed.

So I have no way to get my ship and now my house deed.
But the biggest complaint I have IF YOUR OUT OF SPACE ON YOUR MAP FOR HOUSES OF THAT SIZE THEN WHY NOT LET PEOPLE KNOW???? AND WHY CAN I BUY ONE IF YOU DONT HAVE ANY SPACE TO PLACE IT????????
I have lost almost 4 to 6 months worth of work over a little thing called SPACE.
Now I read that you let people have up to 5 houses per account, well I’m sorry. That is way to many for one account. It should only be one House per IP ADDRESS. I don’t see how its fair to let one person have multiple houses across the map or make it where you cant place a house, do to they put a guild column in the way of a good spot or other non-movable object. Plus one month is too long for a house to deteriorate. I could understand two weeks, but that is even long in my book.

-You can recall onto your ship by casting recall onto the key.
-Your house deed is newbied so really doesn't need to be kept on the ship anyway. Keep it in the top level of your pack.
-Placed houses can be purchased cheaply enough from other players (see the housing forum) if you can't place one yourself.
-One house per character is era accurate.
-House decay is 14 days not a month.
-Vendors have no idea if there are still spots, houses do fall all the time, it's unrealistic (and not era accurate) to suggest that house deeds not be available if spots aren't.

Any character can cast a recall off a scroll, there'll be some fizzles but you can (even if it's an RP thing you could break your rule for a house deed surely?). EDIT - From post below this^ is not correct if you are at below 40 int, you need a small amount of magery or a high intelligence.

Do you want me to rescue the boat and deed? Serious offer, if you have an original key. PM me if you want me to.

You should have a ship key either on you plus one in your bank if you lost the one you had with you. You can recall off the original boat key to get back onto the boat. Hopefully you didn't put a chest or something in front of the mast where you recall to. Even if you had remembered to drop the anchor, you can't dry dock a boat with anything on it or in the hatch. So you'd still have to get back on it to do it.

Housing... yes, it's extremely hard to find a place for anything larger than a small. You're better off watching the Trading forum to find a house you like and buy it from another player. You might get lucky and find a house about to decay as well, but those are usually heavily camped.

In the meantime, I'd suggest you just place a small house to use until you find a nice house you like. There's a lot of places to place smalls.

Edit: Someone snuck in a post while I was typing with other info. Yes, buy a recall scroll and a few regs and you can recall back onto the boat.

Eek... this is inaccurate, if it's the case. Should require a minimum of 6.1 magery to recall off of a scroll, which I think you need around 40 INT to have.

Boat situation sorted, I recalled on and sailed it back to the mainland for him.

You might well be correct. I was assuming a little from memory of a beggar character with no room for magery, he must've had a little bit :?

Edit -

Just realised this bit of the OP wasn't commented on - If you see a guildstone on the ground it's a left over from a house collapse (they can't be picked up and don't decay). If it's blocking a spot you want page a GM and they will move it out of the way.

Just an FYI, if you want your cash back, go to the architect, look for the real estate NPC, if the house deed is in your pack he'll say "Drop the deed on me ....." and you'll end up getting 100% of the deed's value deposited into your bank box.

Also, keep looking. I managed to place 2 towers and a patio in the past few weeks just by walking around, they weren't awesome locations (2 swamp spots, 1 ice island spot), but regardless, they were large houses. I still pass by L shape and patio/brick house spots on a regular basis.
