Charging players (in game gold) to post on trading post.

Post by monaxe »

I propose that in the future we charge players a fee (in game gold) to post their adds on the trading post forum.

I know the trading forum is a useful resource that players have become somewhat dependent on for trading, its a good place and I use it. I believe that by charging s small fee anywhere from 5k-25k to post on this forum. we would all benefit by deterring the people who hijack/post bs on other people's posts as we have all seen in the past.
there are a bunch more of benefits that would result, but I will let other people consider the pros v. cons.

overall, this seems like a small fee to pay to use this resource considering the value of most of the items being traded on the forum as well as the fact that players are using the forum to provide some insurance against scamming.

let me know what u think?

no thats a silly idea for the problem you're highlighting. there are many other solutions that would be alot better suited and easier to enforce.

just bc it is "silly" does not mean it would not work and if there are "so many" other solutions maybe list one.

I find the best way to deal with derailments/hijacks in TP threads is to just ignore them.

Basically, I self moderate and don't rely on someone else to separate the wheat from the chaff.

As for the other benefits you claim there would be, care to elaborate? Are we talking about a gold sink? Do we need a gold sink? I'm no expert on the economy here on UOSA, but it doesn't seem we do. Prices for items aren't outlandish by any means, so it appears there is little inflation.

Further, who would the fee be paid to? One of the staff? Give them something trivial to divert their attention to when they already have limited time? Or would the gold go to a player? Why would that be a good idea? I don't see how that would be good either, because then it wouldn't be a gold sink... it would be a pool of cash that kept building up. How would that player be selected to be the fee holder? What controls would be in place to keep that person from using the proceeds for personal gains? Staff monitoring? Again, that would just go back to it being something the staff doesn't need to be hassled with.

Seems like something that would be more of a headache than it's worth. Especially when you can default to just not reading the OT posts. Sometimes a little self regulation is the best course of action.

it is silly because it wouldnt work. as blackfoot asked, how would you go about retrieving ingame gold from every person who posts in the forum? it would be near impossible and would take up far too much time and effort. an easier solution would be to ban people from the trade forums when they troll threads.

Marm, as always, is right.

Silly due to being impractical, not silly because paying is silly. Clearly some barrier is beneficial.

Maybe having the players pay the gold to an NPC vendor in the game, and once u pay than it could reflect the number of posts you purchased in your myuosa.

How would I post from my iPhone? Would I have to go find a computer to install UO on just to be able to pay some npc gold so I can ask someone a question or bid on something in the trade forums? How would new players post in the trade forums at all since they might not have any gold yet? As usual monaxe's posts are frivolous and would waste staff time and energy to put in place for no real reward. Just ban trolls for highjacking, problem solved

Ban everyone on forums until the annoyed expressions of the mods finally leaves their faces. Then 1 by 1 let people back in after a month or so. Problem bandaged and taped.

How about people take it upon themselves to resist responding to posts that de-rail a trade thread?

Or just use the report button.
