Tournament ring is too laggy

Post by Psilo »

Please hear me out Derrick!

I recently started joining tournaments and have noticed that the ring is laggy even though it makes players invisible and zones out objects. The lagg is similar to what I get at test center when dueling around the non-static objects.(not counting latency lagg which is a seperate issue for TC)

Suggestion: Make the ring simpler, use the natural grass land of green acres and a simple fence to show the ring. I think this will help the lagg issue, please other people agree with me on the lagg too. It's certainly not the amount of players, players don't need to be invisable, we just need the non-static objects taken out.

I have a very fast computer so it's definitely not my specs. If this doesn't get fixed I may stop joining tournaments and only 1v1 on the field, I never get lagg like this when 1v1ing on foot anywhere else. :?

I'd say it's your PC or something with your client, I ping ~210 to UOSA and occasionally my data xfer gets capped to dial up speed (if I go over my monthly data allowance). I have no problems with lag in the arena, or on test.

No lag for me in there either.

If I am ever lagging, it is on my end.

Be sure that you have "Use Smart CPU Reduction" turned off in razor, this can cause this. Also fiddle with the vidoe setting in Client Options <ALT>O, but don't turn of 565 color mode.

In the meantime, I've made this change. This was something that has been intended to be done to reduce mistargets that happen when the floor "items" are targeted. I'll run a test at 10pm to make sure the reconfiguration is working, as the "height" of the arena has changed.

Me too, and I don't lose sync nearly as much when I duel people at wrong roof, in a mine or even near a house.

I lose sync more in the tournament area than I do riding around on mounts in Brittania.

I really think that the "1/2 second delay" needs to be taken out until the sync issue gets resolved. Having to stop all the time is what causes desyncing. Since the pvp mechanics don't allow the hally to get to the next stage in the cycle(prepping to hit) without stopping this is adding to the number of desyncs people are getting.

PVP was so much better without the "having to stop" to hit for that reason, desyncing really kills people and I know numerous people who left for another shard to pvp on for this reason alone.

Until we fix desyncing we need to completely take out "stop 1/2 second". Desyncing isn't era accurate so I believe more good will come from removing the 1/2 second delay even though some believe it to be accurate.

I don't understand how this can be related at all. It's my understanding that most people are not experiencing significant lag in the tournament arenas, and if the removal of the floor as not made a difference for you I don't believe we are going to find that this is anything related to the shard. If you are experiencing significant lag you are likely losing packets, and this leads directly to desync.

There are some suggestions in the threads in the Server and Client support section for alleviating lag. The top causes for lag that I've seen are "Use smart cpu reduction" in Razor; wireless networks, overloaded networks (bit-torrent clients in house?), bad cables, and hard drive fragmentation.

Having to stop to hit is a statement that is going to be a bit confusing for some readers, as you don't actually need to stop to swing your weapon, but again, this is unrelated to this problem, and is not changeable.

It's not, he is just going on another rant.

Everything you just described has absolutely nothing to do with you experiencing lag & desynching..

Yea I already know about Use Smart CPU Reduction, I'm the one who found out about it = P

I think I may be having packet issues, does lagg that jumps randomly mean lost packets? I seem to have lagg that almost feels more like client-side but I can't be sure.

This is annoying because it doesn't happen to me on other free shards I used to play, it's a shame this happens(as well as desync issues) on my favorite free shard. :|

Are you talking about the quarter of a second for your swing to advance that requires you to not move?

It's not the act of stopping I mind so much, it's the fact that stopping increases my chance of desync.

I've noticed this. I don't mind the delay, but with the inaccurate desyncing it really kills pvp and makes it a pain.

Maybe it's mostly a problem I'm having, either way I'd like to get to the bottom of it.

Just following up to say I FINALLY fixed this problem, it only happened when I got windows 7.

To fix it I followed the advice of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=14298

I advice anyone who thinks their UO isn't running 100% smooth to do what that thread says, go into bios and disable those options and also uncheck "Use Smart CPU usage reduction" of course.

I no longer have flick/client lagg and whenever I chase players I can keep up and hit them on the move. Awesome.
