well considering that there has been no offical announcements about it .. and it is made by a brand new forum account that no one has ever heard of, who are we to know if this is legitimate or a scam?

we must caution on the side of scam.

While I always support new ideas from the UOSA community, and would never try to hinder the growth or success of a service, I agree with DW that some precautions should be taken, there should always be a clear distinction between official UOSA and non-official, as to not use the same USER NAME and PASSWORD for both forum accounts, and the possibility of that even being the same as your Ultima password (though a verity of passwords should be used) there are people that still use the same pass for everything; also this site was put up by a user on their first forum post, a service like this would have a much better time catching flight if endorsed by trusted UOSA players, obviously the Admin of UOSAtrade plays Secondage, who are you? "Tunerian" the Admin name on UOSAtrade comes up with 0 hits on MyUOSA or on these boards... what is there to hide?

i know that chaos isn't apart of it, i cant imagine shasta would put this kinda effort behind it, i doubt brules set up a forum and I have nothing to do with it ruling out anyone with connections to the channel. I found out about this forum a few days ago and made a matrondewinter account which was promptly deleted - probably because they thought I was matron. I suspect its not ca either. gk is my best guess. regardless of who it is I doubt its an attempt to do anything other than provide a trade forum outside of this forum. something that the staff here has mentioned they'd prefer.

Thats interesting, the fact that your MatronDeWinter acount got deleted either means 1 of two possible things;

1. that it proves this new forum is already corrupt, while Matron has been known to do some shady deals she is still a valued member of the community, doing just as much legitimate business, so to have her removed shows a bias already exists.

2. That in fact this is cA and they knew you were not the real MatronDeWinter, promptly deleting such account

These are NOT attacks rather we are raising valid questions so that pre-cautions can be taken, like anything new you shouldn't just jump in blindly, there are certain things that just don't feel right,

All I would like to know is Who mr UOSATrade AKA "Tunerian" is here on UOSecondage. I dont think that's much to ask, I don't trust new people in any game, no one should this game is designed to crush players dreams, not knowing some ones identity certainly increases the risk of that, Anonymous is a deadly thing to play with.

Though this was as much a shock to me as anyone else (only a few days ago .. I was invited into a closed beta ) .. I still do not know who owns this however I did make an account .. look around .. post with some issues I ran into and issues were fixed quickly .. I dout anyone wanting to scam would fix small bugs ..

Again I'm not sure why the staff names are not posted and I advise anyone to use a new password when making an account as I did. It is true that Derrick and other staff have wanted out of the trade market for some time. With all the postings and activity in the trade section of the forum I'm sure it is not great for the computer hosting the forum as well.

I think with time this will be a good thing, and soon all will see it to be so. But as always in UO be smart think a head and question what you don't understand.

Maybe I am just being ignorant, but there seems little wrong with this if administration doesn't have a prob with this sort of thing. It seems like a place for people to advertise wares and decide a price. I am sure the details of meeting and setting up the trade could still be handled in UOSA PMs. I would just suggest not using any account info or passwords, avoid downloads, and handle the final arrangements in UOSA IRC or forums where scamming rules apply, but other than that, how are they going to do anything to you?

the current Trade forum is moderated by players and not Staff.

why do we need a new one?

if you get banned from this forum you loose access to everything here.

if you get banned from the new trade forum you only loose that .. to some scammers that probably wouldnt bother them much.

I created an account. Can't hurt. If it does, so be it. My world won't end. Setting this website up with the idea to scam players or something like that would be retarded and will severely hurt the server.
I don't want to be suspicious about everything like some are. Also, because something works fine in one's opinion doesnt mean it should not be changed or that it cannot be made better.

While this is indeed an advertisement, it's a UOSA community related site promotion not unlike a guild site. Because the owners of this site are unknown to me I cannot really endorse the site or it's validity. I have in the past called for the potential of a third party trade site (more in the spirit of UO-TradeSpot), as being more appropriate for our users, however it's up to the community to embrace this or not.

First, I would like to say that I am pleased by the discussion here in the sense that it is productive(mostly) and shows that the players are taking it seriously even if some of the language is set to an aggressive tone. We will answer any questions openly and honestly, however we do not guarantee you will like the answer.

We will address a few of the concerns and questions we've seen crop up:

- Who are we? Why are we not posting on your real UOSA name?

We are a group of players on UOSA who will not be revealing our identity to any player. It is no secret that UOSA is a close community and everyone has someone who will attempt to tear down whatever they do. It is for that reason we choose to remain anonymous. You have traded with us, ran events with us, and we have been in your guilds but with regards to uosatrade.com you will not know it is us. If and only if Derrick requests to know who we are we will notify him and only him. Lastly, we felt it was better this way in order to keep the peace and promote players trading with players.

- The MatrondeWinter account that was created was deleted. You're corrupt! You're cA!

We are not corrupt, we are not cA. We sent out a few feeler invites to known traders in good standing to come and check us out, she was not one of them. Nor was Panthor so someone may have leaked it. That's fine. Additionally, the email address registered appeared to be a fake and was not validated. Lastly, the IP address was not traced through a Florida aggregator, so there was no way it could be her. Thus, the account was deleted and we stand behind that decision.

- You're from the uosatrade chatroom in IRC! You're promoting them!

Directly from our forum signature rules: "3.) We do not promote any IRC room over the other. Plain and simple: uosatrade is shorter than secondagetrade. We will not tolerate this petty room war here, consider this your final warning." This is not a plot to overtake any IRC room, uostrade.com sounds much nicer than secondagetrade.com uosatradingpost.com or the slew of another names that were tossed around.

- This a scam!

We can talk all day about how this is not a scam, but how you feel it is, and then we say we are not here to scam anyone, then you say we are. We are not interested in circuitous arguments. We would not have paid for domain hosting and registration, invested long hours into developing custom additions to the forum, and spent less and less time playing only to be fixing small bugs, errors, protocol discussion, just to scam someone. The net result would be this: you're scammed for your account information, Derrick checks the logs and sees where everything went, our accounts are banned and we lose the time, money, effort, and fun we had playing the game and creating this site. It really doesn't add up. There is a saying "the simplest answer is usually the correct one".

That being said, we respect everyone's cautious behavior. This is not a matter we take lightly and the security we provide is not something we take lightly. If you have issues you see with potential security or have a desire to discuss the finer points of forum software and security, you are free to contact us and we will be more than happy and capable of addressing your questions and concerns.

We should give it a chance before attacking it for no reason. The only argument against the site right now is "we don't know everything about it." That's a pretty bad reason to attack something.
