Had fun roaming around and then made it to my first Dungeons, Covetous and Shame both of which lasted approximately 15mins before some jerk came running by the slay the newbs for their suit of mixed bone/chain armor and a bag of reg that has like 20 regs in it. That wasn't even so bad until I did some research into attempting to survive such attacks. Then i came to a realization. PvP is deader then dead here, if I even wanted to hold my own I would have to run a cookie cutter template of GM Mage and macro all my spells through Razor or easyUO to even stand a chance. (Never mind even trying if 3-5 people come at ya all running the macro's)

I must say however that the concept of keeping open PKing alive in this kind of environment is well quite retarded, is there any satisfaction even gained? 'Look man, I killed another newb with this script i downloaded, pretty leet huh?'

Now I know some people are thinking STFU up newb, conform or rage quit and GTFO. Well the sad fact is your kinda right, There is NO point in playing UOSA unless you want to conform to that standard, hence I am quitting but honestly I slept on it and did some thinking and honestly I am not willing to put in the effort just to fight in script wars vs. another scripter.

IMHO PVP should be disabled and consensual(duals, tournys, events) only in such an environment where scripting is so utterly and blatantly used and abused. Now I know to that opinion people are saying to themselves 'STFU pussy'. Well the truth is it is you that are not willing to fight someone who wants to actually fight back who is the pussy. But this is just my opinion and you are certainly welcome to your own.

I do however appreciate the 3 days of fun I had and I thank the admins for that that, I wish you all the best. However I suggest if you ever wish to gain newcomers in the future you do look into making their making their experience more then 'OMG i was just raped by 4 people running scripts, while minding my own business and trying to have fun' cause that in my mind sums this shard up nicly.

Fare The Well
We far to often get post like this on the forums. This is about the 8th one I read since I have been back, which has been a solid month. In addition to that, the new rivalry server or whatever it's called is making it's way in very soon with competive features that will rival this shard.

So I decided to make a guild called, "not for profit business." Silly name I am sure, but I want to get the point across about how I am going to run this thing.

It's primary purpose it to basically assist newcomers to the shard by offering them resources, temporary housing, protection to an extent( which will be based on 2 things, our own pvpers we have on call, and hopefully, and more importantly, some pk's seeing their tag and not attacking them given the fact I am notorizing this clan to be strictly for newcomers)

The way this guild is to be funded is through outside contributions. We already have a board of directors, Nolo, Yomega, Jennifer, Ishamel, and myself. We came to this board by contributions. I have donated a placed 2 story, and I have small houses I am using as temporary macro housing areas. Yomega has donated 75k in assets, 25k gold and a placed small house. Nolo has donated 50k gold. Ishmael and Jennifer donated 100k. Also, to keep the best interest for the newcomes, I have decided to have a voting system to change the board as needed. The bigger the guild gets, the larger the board of directors is going to need to be. Right now we have 5, obviously. Also, in the situation where the board, including myself the founder, isn't performing. I am giving the guildmates and contributors voting rights. We will always need an odd number of directors to help eliminate ties in voting.

I am also going to run events through this guild to help raise funds. The most recent one I am working on is a gambling event. Blackjack. craps, and other games once I find a way to create it. Contributors also receive crediability and perquisites to events. Their will be a perquisite list for every event, I will post before it takes place.

I have played a couple of shards with people that tried to start up like the individual I quoted. And again, with the new rival shard coming in, I encourage everyone to contribute and not kill these newcomers. Those shards I mentioned have all failed due to a lack of popularity. You guys will probably get tired of fighting each other such as the other shards have. I really hope you guys take this thread and idea seriously.

I also want to use this post as a contract to permantely bind me to the voting results, guild direction, and contributor spending. So, if 1 individual donates 100k and tells me to buy regs for 4 newcomes, I have to use that 100k to buy regs for the newcomers, If an individual says here is 100k spend it how you like, I have to spend it in a rational form for the guild only! And if you guys don't find me spending rationally you can vote me off! Got to love America!

So bottom line, contributors get to choose how their gold will be spent, they get perquisites for events. For example at my casino night, I will have designated seats at a high rollers table for contributors, and free alcohol or something fun. I am sure I can think of other things.

I know some may be thinking, "Fede don't you pk?" I am afraid to answer yes I do from time to time. But I decided to put the pking aside and really kick this guild off.

I strongly encourage you guys to participate and increase both the population, and entertainment for the shard. Feel free to ask questions!

Also, can the leader of K^A PM me, I am thinking we can come together and create a fun event.

Thank you guys very much!

I would be greatly interested in joining and contributing to this guild

I've been playing for a little over 2 weeks now, and while I'm making solid progress and having fun, it's pretty tough out there.

I will donate a small house on Dagger for this guild's progress in growing by helping new comers to the shard! Rather then scam them like other's...

Thank both of you very much.

Tweakin, I am in IRC as Fede. Don't hesitate to PM me. If that doesn't work. Then I can meet you anywhere in the game to help you out:)

I would recommend you give no new players gold. Instead, give them the following:

1. 5,000 bandages
2. A spellbook containing the following spells: Greater Heal, Cure, Recall, Mark, Lightning, Energy Bolt, and Flamestrike
3. A pack of some number of basic training items: shep crooks, daggers, bone armor, etc.
4. Temporary co-ownership of a house equipped with training dummies.
5. Access to a rune library of mid-level hunting areas not frequented by PKs.

Create a how to for one or two types of easy to build money generating characters.

Allow them to stay on the stone for two weeks at most.

Ask the shard not to PK or grief players wearing the guild tag.

Also, locate the city within easy walking distance of both a town and decent newbie monster spawn. Outside East Brit, for instance.

I'm opposed to the idea of co-owning newbs to houses, I don't think it encourages them to stay. I agree with the rest of chums ideas though.

But only for two weeks, so they have a place to macro was the idea.

I'm not super opposed to it, I can sleep most nights without thinking about newbie housing.. I just don't think its helpful - it's better for them to earn the ability to safely macro in a house. If your first 2 weeks are spent in a house macroing rather than playing the game trying to earn house money its easy to lose interest in the shard. You have so little invested its easy to walk away.

Let them sleep in the sewers buy the cloth for bandages from killing rats and hang out in mage shops hoping someone will sell a spell they need.

I don't think the whole housing thing is really that important, I've been playing for 2 weeks and can still live out of my bank box and macroing can be easily done anywhere without any real danger inside town limits

Gold is about a dollar shy of useless for newbs IMO, it's the supplies that count the most, and mounts....everyone needs a mount

I agree, new players don't need gold or co owned to houses. That will come with time.

What new players need is bandages, extra weapons, a few runes to cities and some recall scrolls. They also need a positive introduction to UOSA by a veteran who wants to help. Go hunting with them for some time, then from there they can go with the flow and play the game.

Many new players have hard time starting sandbox games like UO because it doesn't direct you to a quest/goal instantly. Once you get them setup with some supplies, advice and a positive outlook on UO they will stay.

Spend time with new players as well as give them supplies, explain how to raise stats and show them how to train skills to 30.

I think gold can actually spoil them and perhaps even confuse! IF you give them gold, give them 2k or so and tell them it's for training their skills to 30 from NPCs.

Great idea though, glad to see people trying to help. The reason we had/have 700+ on today is because of actions like this.

You have Dubya the harvard cheerleader as an avatar...
8)
I take that as a compliment.

Most "NEW" players I ran into were alts of established players.
Seriously man...I did that whole help the new guy thing before.

There are a hundred ways to earn gold, resources, and knowledge...

What they need is experience.

Well, my main idea was to put a cap on the resources they can consume weekly. I like the ideas. Thank you. Chum, you should try getting on the board of directors and contribute a bit:)

I also got a PM from Derrick telling me to clean my original post up from 3 dirty letters:) I hope I met the threshold:)
