It all sounds well and good, but i still don't understand why you are hiding who you are?

if i am going do deal with someones site where scammers are sure to lurk, i for one would like to know who is taking on this responsiblity and if they themselves are responsable ..

that really doesn't seem to be too much to ask!

maybe you could give us names of some reputable players that do know you and can Vouch for you.

you are asking for alot of trust .. and giving nothing to warrent it.

It seems that all the well known, and reputable veteran players on UOSA have no idea who is behind this....


Unless your a group of notorious scammers, there is NO reason to hide behind an anonymous username of identity.... if players will legitimately deal with your group on UOSA, then there should be no reason why they would have an objection to your UOSATrade forums....

as this stands you have nothing to loose by scamming? no reputation will be tarnished as your anonymous, hell no one would even know.... while indeed it would be a long con, the cost of registering a domain name is almost nil now, and time to build a forums, well certainly less then 7x a character, these things are not valid "WE ARE LEGIT" answers for me.

lets not kid ourselves, there is no hefty consequence for scamming on the trade board here - its just a ban from those specific boards. Oh no! Same goes for IRC - and its the same for any 3rd party websites. They can only ban the scammers. If someone is scammed in a channel you moderate the most you can do is ban them, you seem to think thats enough for your trade channel.

Very reasonable, this would be a good way to earn some integrity.

As for you DW, please heed Derrick's request and stop attacking people. Clearly I can read, my argument stands. You appear to think that they should not be given a chance to prove that the boards will be moderated fairly and I suspect you haven't even given the site a once over. The feedback system looks interesting and could possibly be better than we have here (which is virtually none). uosatrade.com could be great for UOSA but you refuse to give them a chance because they haven't a track record. Exactly how will they build one if no one uses this service?

If the people running the new forums are indeed respected pillars of the UOSA community, that reputation alone would assuage many of the concerns being expressed here. I'm not going to go as far as to claim the admins of this new trade site are corrupt and intend to scam. I'm just a nobody who's speaking up to say I don't care for the anonymous angle either.

Anyway,

I'm all for having more than one option when it comes to conducting in game trades. However, I'm going to go with what I know and trust, and I trust the trade forums here. Perhaps if uosatrade.com starts to get glowing reviews I'll change my stance. Until then any trading business I have will be conducted here.

I still think this sounds extremely fishy. I'd be all for using a "third-party" site, providing I had something from Derrick etc, stating that it was legit. Derrick has said he knows nothing about this. Therefore, I will continue to distrust it. The anonymity is the biggest factor for me. I understand the whole idea of "If you're UOSAFamous, people are going to debase you just because". But with something like this, you really do need some kind of a name behind it to get any kind of confidence going in the community. By not saying who you are (as you've seen), people are going to assume the worst.


On a completely separate level, unless the current trade forum is abolished, I will only ever be doing my business there. Not only am I able to have the security of knowing for sure that scammers will be punished (unlike with uosatrade.com), I also have the multitude of other "old school" players looking over my shoulder and making sure everything's fair.

Ultimately, this site doesn't give me the warm fuzzies, and (not that I'm hoping for it) I will be waiting for the day when the crap hits the fan here.

Neither of the irc trade channels have official endorsement (despite darkwings constant claims otherwise) and no one seems to have an issue with scammers in either. I'll go out on a pretty short limb and say its impossible to get Derrick to endorse a 3rd party site - thats kinda the point. Its too much to require UOSA staff endorse/support a trade forum which is why they have been encouraging a third party venture for well over a year (possibly over 2 years). Can we at least wait until someone has a problem before we assume they will?

If anyone is under the impression there is some real protection from scamming on the boards here you're sadly mistaken. Anyone can decide to scam you today using the forums and they'll get a slap on the wrist. It's often implied that you can be banned from the game for scamming here but afaik the only punishment is being banned from using the trading section. Like I said before "Oh No!"

Theres no good reason to distrust this site. No matter who is actually running it they have some enemies and nay sayers. It could be GK, Kelektra, DarkWing, Chaos - anyone and there will be people who will trust them and won't trust them. It's pretty clear why someone who wants their service to UOSA to be for everyone regardless of personal issues would want to use a generic name to avoid petty politics.

Use a different password for this site than any other game/website logins (which you should always do anyways). Take necessary precautions when making trades (which you should always so anyways). And report any negative/positive experiences. It's not hard, it's not complicated and if it works out it benefits the shard in numerous ways including freeing the staff to properly moderate other areas of the forums and continue to improve the shard in dozens of ways. No one is asking you to blindly trust some no-name running a trade forum - just give it a shot.

Why does everyone get so angry and attack someone who is trying to do something to help out the community.

If you are worried about them phishing, don't give them anything that you are concerned about.

I think they made there intentions very clear and I think it's a pretty cool thing for them to do. Besides that, they might ENJOY trading and it could be something they just want to do. What's the big freaking deal?

It's like you people are threated or something that they are trying to do something cool for themselves and the community, give it a break.
