Legality question

Post by suil »

I probably missed this somewhere else, but is it legal to buy accounts/items for RL cash?

Thanks,
Suil

I believe so, but is it worth it is a better question?

With 3 clients allowed to connect and razor, I really don't think anything ingame is worth a penny! :)

I've gone through getting established on this game about 5 too many times. I'm very interested in the PvP here but I am not at all game for starting from scratch.

I remember back in the day when people would pay stupid money for houses and stuff like that. I think I remember hearing back in '99 about a house that was sold on ebay near the graveyard for nearly 200 dollars. Hahahaha

I sold my large brick near wrong for 128 bucks on ebay.
Then I deleted my orc and main character and sold my account for another 128 bucks.

When Shadowbane came out, I harvested the special swords a blade weaver would use plus sold top notch items produced in my shop over ebay...made another 300-500 bucks.

I know my friend had a guild mate/friend rob his house. So he pretended he didn't know and stayed 'buddy buddy' witht he guy long enough to put a trojan on the computer. Stole the account, transfered all houses to his brothers account and all gear, then turned the guy red and statlossed him to nothing.

Then sold it all on ebay for about 1500 bucks. There use to be serious money in UO.

There was serious money in UO.

I made a few thousand dollars selling rares and GP ($10,000+). I also sold 'starter' accounts with 3XGMs for about $200-$300.

I sold my account with 5 houses, 7XGM characters for about $1250 in March of 2000. I waited too long, I could have got more if i would have sold sooner.

Yes it is legal.

However it is not legal for you to post information about selling / buying in-game items for RL cash$ on the forums. Kind of defeats the purpose of it being legal, but that's what I was told when I attempted to sell all my accounts.

We need a new UO Auctioneer website...

I sold up in the prime of duping- when inflation had destroyed the economy but Ebay had not yet fully caught up.

The price of a million gold had dropped from 80 to about 40 US$, but I still made literally 1000s of dollars- also, the exchange rate to NZ$ at the time was 39US cent to the NZ$... I made a killing.

My brothers and I sold the Brit GY Towers in Fel and Trammel on GL. Fellucia One was $1500 and the Trammel one was $750 or so. Plus we sold accounts too, this game was easy to make money on.

I made well over $100k on UO. Quit my backbreaking 50hr/wk job in late '99 when i was sure I could make as much playing a game 30hrs/wk. I made it my job for 3 years(best job I ever had). Really made a killing on UoR placing trammel towers on every shard. UoR also forced me to solely play Siege so I made another large bundle selling my true rares on Chesapeake. I hated Trammel but I did make quite a bundle off it...

Back in the day I would have made a killing except I was too young and my parents didnt allow me to use their credit card on the internet... sigh.

But I scammed probably well over 100million gold, tower in fel, 5 large houses, napa valley full set of 20 server birth rares and almost a castle in trammel.

came back a few years later, scammed a large house and sold for 150$
