AFAIK the only blank newbie key that can be obtained is copper?*

If it's a gold one for sale I'd be a bit suspicious.

Edit - *I stand ready to be corrected, but the method I know of obtaining them has only produced copper keys for me. (I'm not really sure that method works any more either, it's been a while)

The only newbied keys I've ever seen have been copper.. and yes they open any door as long as it was copied from the original key to open that door

I'm fairly sure the answer is 'no one knows'. But does anyone know the odds? Is it an equal chance to get any part and ive just got bad luck and continually get springs or is a key a lesser chance for some reason?

Every new character and "throwaway" character I make (for ghosting, house/mare holding, etc), I have started with 1 tinkering. Still yet to see a key! Have probably made around 20 characters since I delete them most every 7 days or so to try again.

Make one on test center...I bet you'll randomly get a key then. I doubt I am the one with that kind of bad luck.

i think that doesnt matter. there is a random spawn on items related to the skill you choose. i think 1% should still work, but to be sure make a 50tinker. i made many keys some months ago "like every 5-7 char had one" with a tinker+spiritspeak or tracking toon but now it seems like they have fixed it. tried it every week with like ten chars and no luck. so i dont know if they still spawn.

If they are era accurate then why not let them spawn. I too have tried for a while to get another key since I accidently changed the locks on my tower but to no avail.

It use to be that you would get 2 random tinkered parts, now you only get 1. This and adding more tinkered items are probably what's making the probably be so small.

You still get 2 parts. Usually tinker's tools x 2 or tinker's tools + gears/ clock parts/ other random tinker's parts. I am still waiting for that wonderful day when I will see the tiny copper coloroed pixles that will make my lazy part so happy.
