Server downtime today

Today at around 12:30pm eastern time we had a hardware failure of a shard server hard drive that took us down for about 2 hours while we diagnosed and corrected the trouble. This was an unusual happening and we do not expect this to happen very often at all. The shard crash resulted in a 15 minute revert back to the last save. The worst case scenario of hardware failure would have resulted in a larger revert and a fail-over to our backup shard server which was brought up as a test shard today during the outage. Thanks to everyone who logged onto test during the outage, we had a great time and some videos were taken which will hopefully get posted soon.

Unfortunately, the shard website and forums were down during the period so the only means of communicating the status of the live (or un-live) shard was via IRC. We will soon be migrating the forums and website to another server so that we have some redundancy in communication in the event of this type of outage. I encourage everyone who does not currently use irc to at least have the details handy so you would be able to find out what's going on in an event such as this. IRC Info Here

Yea, it was an ip address that I gave out in the IRC channel. in the future it will be test.uosecondage.com
