ID Wands don't work. I'm not sure if the skill does.
Anyhow I would be wary of that "perfect" katana for sale.. A lot of people trying to scam with magic weapons now that the identification system isn't global.

I'm pretty sure you were able to either use skill Item ID or a ID wand on items on a vendor to see exactly what it was.
