I think I basically know it, just take out say 2 regs at a time before every time you cast say invisibility.Sandro wrote:It depends on the players stealing skill & the weight of the item they're trying to steal.
If you check the Guides section of the forums you should be able to find a post explaining how to use the Restock Agent & your bank to prevent being stolen from while afk macroing in town/at a bank.
How long does an item remain on the ground

Re: How long does an item remain on the ground
Also, I was thinking with the dexxer thief template in the wiki that suppose you were one and you successfully stole something from someone in town, you'd go grey, but if the person you stole from tries to attack you, they will get the aggressor flag, meaning you as a grey, if you killed them would NOT get a murder count (and would be able to loot the body.)

Anyone know?randale wrote:Also, I was thinking with the dexxer thief template in the wiki that suppose you were one and you successfully stole something from someone in town, you'd go grey, but if the person you stole from tries to attack you, they will get the aggressor flag, meaning you as a grey, if you killed them would NOT get a murder count (and would be able to loot the body.)
Re: How long does an item remain on the ground
I think that's correct. If you are completely successful you should not be eligible for a murder count.randale wrote:Anyone know?randale wrote:Also, I was thinking with the dexxer thief template in the wiki that suppose you were one and you successfully stole something from someone in town, you'd go grey, but if the person you stole from tries to attack you, they will get the aggressor flag, meaning you as a grey, if you killed them would NOT get a murder count (and would be able to loot the body.)
Test this before trying though

PS: I've verified that this is intended to be the current mechanic, but again, test first. I can't clear a count because i was wrong in the forum.

Re: How long does an item remain on the ground
I thought either way, if they attack you while you are grey, perma grey or blue, they will get the aggressor flag meaning you can kill them without penalty. Though the stealing article says that you must come back in 2 minutes after being grey to fight them. The dexxer thief makes it sound like you can attack them as soon as they attack you, whether you stole successfully or not.Derrick wrote:I think that's correct. Re: How long does an item remain on the ground
Best way to figure out how long an item stays on the ground is to test it. I know for a fact footstools used to last only 15 minutes or so. Also, newbies items will decay within minutes inside houses, not sure that it also applies to leaving them laying around in the wilderness.

Re: How long does an item remain on the ground
It happens in the wilderness too (and in cities and shops and whatnot).
The decay function is based on weight, too. There are ways (weighs... get it?!) to have a bag remain on the ground in the wilderness for literally days.

a locked down bag filled with a insane amount of weight will sit around for a VERY very long time if brought out into the wilderness.

Stole successfully meaning you either got away with it, and were caught, or failed and were caught, either way the victim would know and could attack you, but if they attacked you first and you killed them, no murder count, and get all of the lootrandale wrote:I thought either way, if they attack you while you are grey, perma grey or blue, they will get the aggressor flag meaning you can kill them without penalty. Re: How long does an item remain on the ground
This is not correct as per OSI, and is not the way it is implemented here. Stealing is an agressive action, so in this situation the thief initiated the agression and could be counted.randale wrote:Stole successfully meaning you either got away with it, and were caught, or failed and were caught, either way the victim would know and could attack you, but if they attacked you first and you killed them, no murder count, and get all of the loot

Oh, ok I thought though if a person attacks you, whether you are grey or not they get the aggressor flag, so there's no penalty if they kill you, but neither is it when you kill they even if you are grey, I guess that isn't how it works then?Derrick wrote:This is not correct as per OSI, and is not the way it is implemented here. Re: How long does an item remain on the ground
Let me try and explain this a little bit. When a thief steals from a player, the action is considered "pseudo-aggressive" in that for the first two minutes after the theft, any player may attack the thief and will not have an aggressor flag associated with them, provided the thief was not totally successful. What happens in that scenario is that the thief will receive the aggressive action the moment that he defends against the player who attacked him due to the way that aggressive flags function. If the person he stole from was an innocent player, an aggressive flag against that person will usually qualify that thief for a murder count at the same time. In a nutshell, this is how a thief can become an aggressor after stealing something. Of course, it should be noted that once two minutes have passed, the thief is not susceptible to this problem. Players who attack a thief will become aggressors against the thief, and they may defend themselves without receiving a murder count.

Re: How long does an item remain on the ground
I used to use this mechanic on Atlantic to great profit, especially at the bank in Occlo where the guard zone ends only a couple tiles away from the bank. I'd show up naked and try to steal something heavy just for flagging, then quickly hide and stealth away... two minutes later I'd show up again, naked except for DP newbie dagger, 100 dex and gm fencing and tactics. Good times.
Re: How long does an item remain on the ground
Another thing, if you're going to be a thief, should you earn a lot of karma first, because every time you steal you lose it, and it can get locked, where it can fall but not raise. And, I'm told if it falls too far you can't even buy and sell from NPC's anymore.

Guess with that thief template, you would leave out magery, resist and med though.Wonko the Sane wrote:I used to use this mechanic on Atlantic to great profit, especially at the bank in Occlo where the guard zone ends only a couple tiles away from the bank.
