Bambi, Skara Brae Stabler, Gone Again

Post by Ripplinger »

She was made invulnerable and geared up after the orc invasion, but she's nowhere to be found again. I've been running all over SB in case she wandered off, but she's gone again.

Edit: A different stabler just popped up, Rider. He's not as beefy as Brandi was, but at least we can get pets in and out.

Edit: Corrected her name, shame on me!

If this stablemaster is vanishing and the new one allows you to stable pets...then that may be the source of the overflowing stable bug.

I blame the enticing bazooka for this......someone needs to take away his boating license.

Bambi didn't need enticing (and, considering I stole my boating license from my twin brother, I'm not too worried about losing it). You see, what Bambi needed was a well-deserved vacation in which she could see the world--not just the inside of the stinky old stable. So I gave it to her. The fact is, you guys made her work too hard.

Poor Bambi... the life of a stablemaster (and particularly her's) is a sad, sad, tale. She told me all about it.

You see, Bambi had her first taste of freedom from the oppression of her stablemaster duties after those most excellent Urks took control of Skara Brae. Although she could have single-handedly wiped out the entire orcish hoard, she was also a lonely woman and did not want her immense power to scare off any possible male suitors who might come her way (not that she had any time for such things, since she was required to work in the stables 24 hours a day doing YOUR dirty work.

In any case, she decided to leave Skara Brae for a time during the Urk occupation. On her way out, she left a sign indicating that she would come back when it was "safe"--for the average person, that is, considering the balron or ancient wyrm lair could be considered safe for the average stablemaster.

While she was away, she discovered that normal people--people like you--don't sit in a stable all day getting paid 30 gold to feed, take care of, and clean up the manure of a variety of nasty creatures for an entire week (per creature)! In fact, normal people get out and do things like adventure--killing horrible monsters and obtaining massive amounts of money in a matter of minutes! Furthermore, because of the requirements of her job, she had hitherto NEVER LEFT the stables... not for love, adventure, or any other reason! But now that she'd had a taste of freedom, it was difficult to keep her in the stable. In fact, she kept that sign hanging by the stable door (I believe it is STILL there to this day!) as a reminder of what a liberating experience she had thanks to those wonderful, blessed Urks!

Life actually looked up when she came back after the Urk occupation--it appears all the animals she was watching escaped while she was away! Finally time to relax! But NO--almost as soon as she had returned, people were practically lined up outside her door with a circus of bloodthirsty creatures DEMANDING that she take care of them right away. Nobody even asked how she was doing--all that spewed forth from the mouths of the masses was a barrage of "stable" commands... it was enough to drive a stone-hearted man to tears, let alone a poor stablemaster girl.

You see, I think you all have an entitlement complex--and it hurts people... people like Bambi. You believe that for a mere 30 gold (chump change) you can expect uninterrupted service from somebody keeping your incredibly dirty and violent animals safe and well-fed (that'll cost at least 30 gold in and of itself) for you for an entire week? At least there is some consolation in the fact that some people only ask the Stablemaster to hold cats, rabbits, and rats--bless their souls--and not those big ol' cow-eating dragons that cost more to keep than she gets paid for her services.

Sadly (and because of YOU), at the end of her vacation, she went postal at the thought of continuing working at the stables... she realized what a terrible life it was to be your slaves (for shame!) so she cracked and got real violent towards some innocents in town. Didn't last long, cause she got herself guard-whacked in the process. RIP, Bambi.

That is why you have a different stablemaster... in fact, it was Rider for a time, but Bambi's influence was strong on him, and his fate was similar--some adventure seeing the world followed by going postal.

This is a true story... I'll have to post the surveillance videos / screenshots for everybody in the near future.

I've all-but given up on taking them out into the ocean for adventure. You see, what I thought would be a wonderful experience only seems to make them go crazy... It's strange, too, that they appear to be brainwashed and/or enchanted (probably by that wicked Lord British) to regularly poof back to the stables for no apparent reason at all, in SPITE of the fact that they'd rather be anywhere but there. Poor, poor stablemasters.

*CLAPS*

More proof that even though English majors are traditionally relegated to call centers and car sales (if not perpetual unemployment) after graduation, they CAN contribute (if ever so slightly) to our society.

Well done sir.
<@BoomlandJenkins> I got home, got on UO right away and I knew something was up before I even made it to the spawner, because there were 35+ in the Justice woods and not one person was PKing one another.
