It's one of those thing that almost kept me from joining back. However it really ain't that bad, unlike an empty server it makes you really appreciate your current location and after a few days playing i can tell you acquiring assets was smooth as hell on this server. I did not want of an house surrounded by 10 castles, there was alot of good terrain available on the forum so i just chose one and bought it. The house market here has nothing to do with an overpopulated server of 800+ players, some server emulating modern era of uo sells 7x7 empty fondation for crazy amount because you can't even place a small on the map. Now add a trammel-like gameplay and you get crazy inflation that makes it a real pain for new players, wich is not the case here.
I also found out after a few hours of playing that locked downs items won't display unless you stand one tile south of an house's door, you then realize that most of the good spot are not empty house/tower. realizing that is probably what made me chose to join uo back, good decision imo =p
So yeah, like most thing it felt intimidating playing such an old game on a well etablished server but so far i couldn't put the finger on anything that i couldn't compete in given engouh motivation. Housing definitly feels like a + here, it could of been better with a lower limits per account but custom modification is not what this server is about =p
Empty House everywhere, new players can´t get good spots!

Just an FYI, being a broker on UOSA is a free service. Unlike on the OSI shards back in the day when a broker would get paid and paid very well, the brokers here never ask for payment to do trades. I am not saying I wont accept a tip but its never required.
Re: Empty House everywhere, new players can´t get good spots
I think the server should have even LESS available spots. Land scarcity was a big thing on OSI. I spent my entire time there flipping houses. UO would not be the same if there was no market for housing. On OSI you could flip a small you just placed for deed+50k in 2 minutes at West Brit bank, and that was for something you found out in Trinny jungles or Isle of the Avatar or some shit.
Someone offered me $280US for a small I had on OSI which was about 6 mill at the rate gold was selling. It was the one above Minoc/Vesper in its own clearing in the mountains there. I remember some towers by the mountain side would go for like 10 mill+

I agree land scarcity is a good thing. The more things for people to do, the better, and flipping houses and brokering is one of the coolest things about UO.
I also would say it could be a lot harder to place and still be fine. I find small spots all the time wandering around and it seems there is an IDOC every other day. Population is up though so it will get a bit harder in the coming months. I think thats just the time of the year though.
I think it's really interesting, but I am always fascinated by MMO economics.

Its not hard to get a good house spot, just takes some gold, time and maybe a bit of bullying.
I owned the whole Vesper south beach at one time and let it all IDOC because I was to balls deep in another game.
Had 3 towers and 7? smalls down there. Just had to watch for houses to go IDOC and bullied another resident out of his house, I ended up paying him for it but I had to pk his ass a lot to convince him to move.

Woooow. So many lost opportunities at large areas. Thought it was 1 house per account. Guess thats another reason I play less.
