Such high hopes for this server...

Post by usmclong »

Logged in, made a swordsman. Didn't want to macro but enjoy the game so I ran around the wild killing sheep for bandages for about 3 hours. When I had a nice stockpile of aids, I decided to head to what I remembered to be the noob hotspot, Brit GY. I was immediately greeted by PK who 2 shot me, ressed me, and said 'have fun.' I can deal with that. PKing is one of the things that made UO so great back in the day, right?

Not 5 minutes had passed when another character rides up on a horse, calls me a 'faggot,' and kills me. Then proceeds to talk more shit when I'm dead. I res, come back, congratulate him for killing someone without a single skill over 50, and go back to my business. He asks me what I'm doing here, I reply 'reliving my glory days.' He kills me again and says 'go relive your glory days somewhere else faggot.'

This is the welcome to the server? No wonder people don't stay here.

Sincerely,
Still trying to find a good T2A Atlantic/Siege experience.

People like that are scum, you should rarely have to deal with them, but Britain and Brit gaveyard are generally the places that attract the lowest scumbags. Kind of like any large crowded corrupt city.

If you go to a hot spot like Brit Graveyard to hunt you are sort of asking to be picked on. Even on live UO in the old days Brit Graveyard was a cesspool. I used to make random thieves on random servers when my server was down and just mess with people there, it's kind of like the hood.

To be honest we see posts like yours at least once a month in this community. It was a good community but the kind of people you interact with is based on where you go, what your reasonable expectations are, and who you hang out with. Choice of bank matters, and where you hunt. If you want to go to THE best spot to make money, expect to run into extremely greedy and rude blue players, or lots of PKs. If you go off the beaten path you will meet more casual friendly players.

About being called a "faggot" like I said that's the crowd you often see around West Britain and the graveyard. People act like idiots on the internet, you know this by now right?

Post Edit since I realize your post may be a goodbye. We will be fine without you, and I have searched far and wide, you won't find a better UO experience for what you are looking for. Unless you don't mind weird neon post UO:R servers, maybe they have some super friendly population.

First: Don't let the actions of one bad apple ruin your experience here.

Two: There are plenty of guilds out there that welcome "noobs" and "returning veterans".

Three: This game is still just like it was back in the day. It is what you make of it.

Grow a pair. Avenge your death and tell your grand-children of the day you became a man.

It's the internet bro... there are millions of ignorant children running amok hiding behind anonymity. Are you really that surprised someone called you a fag?

If it bothers you that much, you can use the in game language filter.

Go to any another grave yard then the Britain one and you will be fine.

I have a dexxer that I've levelled up without any macroing (apart from Anatomy ok?!) just to relive the old days. I very rarely come across anybody, let alone PKs.

You just have to go for a wander out in the open, plenty of low level stuff like orcs, trolls, ettins etc spawn all over the map. I sometimes venture to the first levels of dungeons and maybe 1 in 5 times I'll get killed but that's to be expected if you go to a known hot spot.

Also on this server Brit GY seems to be a hot spot for PvP where as on a lot of live servers it was more of a place for newbies to congregate.

Any other graveyard would have gave you an entirely different experience. Quitting over this? Okay then.

You are shocked that you went to a "hotspot" and got PKed by a trash talking git?

REALLY?

I mean....

REALLY?

As a new player, if there is ONE place to avoid it's Brit GY.

Also, one thing I'll never understand is people that QQ about being trash talked, but get involved in it themselves. Namely falling into the category of fool that pulls the "LOL U SO GUD U PK NUB CHAR" card. Take the death, leave, and go somewhere else. Don't indulge the dingbats in their quest to know they got under your skin.

Think about it, if the person that called you a fag is reading the forums, they're patting their own back for causing you to post about rage quitting.

I did the same and as Kyrie said, most gains were had out in the field. There is an obvious divide (always has been/era accurate) between those of us who actually enjoy RP and character development as the designers intended and the guys who would rather just have their character(s) maxed out so they could get down to top level fighting without actually working for it.
In reality, these mentalities have been around since the inception of video games with cheat codes. Let us chant now the Konami Code Nerd Mantra: up up down down left right left right b a (select) start.

As has been said, wandering off the beaten path is the best way to develop your character naturally with less interference. However, you're also a bit less likely to find others to party with out there in the wild. It does happen, and often they are of the same mind in such a scenario, unless they run on screen attacking you :P

Sturm actually started out exactly as I did back 15 years ago with Swordsmanship and Tailoring so I could craft armor as I slew beasts for gains. It's hella easy to make money here though so that didn't last long.
