Job and Money opportunities for New Players

Post by mrbojangles »

Here's a list of money-making opportunities for newish players.

1. Shepard
Items harvested: Cloth/Bandages
Item demand: Medium
Skills required: None. Taming, herding optional.
Difficulty: easy

Harvesting wool from sheep is the most efficient way of creating cloth in this game, and cloth in the form of bandages is always in demand on this server. You can either travel between sheep-pens and harvest the wool from the sheep, or create your own flock of sheep which you can continue to come back to for repeated wool harvesting(be careful though, there are certain thugs on this server who will try and extort protection money out of you if you run a sheep "farm"). Wool is turned into cloth using a spinning wheel and loom, and then turned into bandages by cutting cloth one at a time with a pair of scissors.

2. Miner
Items harvested: Ore and Ingots
Item demand: High
Skills required: mining
Difficulty: easy

Get yourself a pick-axe or shovel, find a chunk of mountains, and start mining. Players will buy ingots for roughly 7-8gp each. Mining is one of the quickest ways to start making decent money immediately.

3. Lumberjack
Items harvested: Logs and Boards
item demand: medium
skills required: Lumberjacking
difficulty: easy

Use an axe on trees. collect logs, use a carpentry tool to turn logs into boards so they weigh less. Sell boards to players for between 2-3.5gp each.

4. Tamer
Items harvested: Horses, ostards and rideable llamas
item demand: low
skills required: taming, magery for gating optional
difficulty: medium

Horses are found sparsely throughout britannia, while ostards are common and randomly spawn throughout the lost lands. Get a few of them and offer them for sale at popular banks such as West Britain and Vesper. This profession is made more difficult by lack of available stable spots, so most new players will likely have to sell all their mounts in one go. Also be warned the wilds of the lost lands can be a dangerous place for a new player, and tamed animals must be "smuggled" out of the lost lands through the Delucia passage, Ice dungeon or Fire Dungeon. Horses should sell for 400-700gp. Ostards and Llamas can go for 500-2k. This is a good income source while you are in the early stages of training taming.

5. Rare cloth and sandals hunter
items harvested: Rare hued cloth and rare sandals.
item demand: medium
skills required: moderately developed fighting skills
difficulty: hard

Rare cloth hues, which are not attainable through dye tubs are becoming a commonly demanded resource. Cloth can be obtained by cutting up the robes looted from evil mages. Evil mages can be found in Fire Dungeon, Ice Dungeon, Shame, Despise and other locations. Evil mages are fairly easy to kill, but the tougher mage lords can prove to be challenging even to fully developed characters. Rare sandals can be looted from NPCs spawning in towns, to kill npcs in town the player must take advantage of a line-of-sight exploit to kill npcs without being guardwhacked, deadly poisoned weapons or explosive pots can also be effective. A forum search can show you the various cloth and sandal hues, and their level of rarity. I won't go into the details of how to kill npcs in town here. Generally, rare cloth sells anywhere between 15 and 300gold per yard.

6. House Burglar
items harvested: player loot
item demand: n/a
skills required: None required. Hiding, Stealth and Magery optional.
difficulty: medium

You would be surprised how many player homes are either improperly secured, unlocked, or contain unlocked items. When walking around the woods, check house doors to see if they are locked, or look for unsecured items in houses. Players commonly leave unsecured bags of "trash items" lying around that can be sold to npcs for a nice profit. If you have stealthing and hiding, try hopping gates (leave your loot in the bank), you might find one directly into a players house(watch out for gate traps though). Or you can try stealthing into a person's house while they are walking in the door. Beware though, going into a private house will make you freely attackable by the house's owner.

7. Hunter
items harvested: leather, meat, feathers.
item demand: low
skills required: very little combat skill
difficulty: easy

Kill animals of all varieties, lay waste to the wilds of britannia. Leather, meat and feathers can all be sold to players. Tailors need leather, tamers need meet, and bowyers need feathers. Leather should sell for between 3-5gp per yard. Meat should sell for between 1-3gp each. Feathers should sell for between 1-2gp each. Profits on this are low, but it is free money that many new players overlook, especially since they are often killing these creatures for skill gains anyways.

work in progress.. feel free to reply with some ideas.
