I am very new to this server. I was walking past west britain bank with my packhorse on my way to the tailors. When i reached to tailors someone followed me in and cast a gate, causing my pack horse to disappear and then ran away. I dont have much concern for losing the pack horse despite lacking the gold to buy another. I want to know why or how this happened, and how i can prevent it or avoid it in the future.

You can prevent it by avoiding Britain. Try going to less frequented cities like Skara Brae, Vesper, Minoc, etc.

You can also take your resources and bank them before going through a city. Too easy to take packhorses away.

How exactly can they do it? i dont want to know how to do it, i just simply want it clarified. i can see that might be difficult. I didnt have anything on my pack horse at the time, i was on my way to getting stuff. i want to know how it is possible for someone to just cast gate, my pet disappears and thats that....

Pets specifically can move through gates just like players and hirelings. It is possible to use the enticement skill on your pet to coax it through the gate, or cast gate infront of you as you are walking, causing the pack horse to walk through the gate.

i would guess the guy used enticing on your pack horse and then it went through his gate.

i know its pretty enticing as a noob to use a pack horse but if you have 100 str you shouldnt need a packhorse. its a waste of your time and money . also people are going to grief you. generally when you see someone with a packhorse its a new player. i used to use them when i was noob to mine and i learned the same types of things you are learning


its much easier to find a nice mountain range with houses with forges on the steps then it is to bring your pack horse and bring out the resources. all the time you spend in transit is lost time that you are not gaining anything. if you have not character that can gate then i would say save up and buy even a boat its about 10k and you can use the boat to bank stuff. just keep your boat key in the bank or someone will steal it and recall to your boat off the key and steal all your loot.

If mining, watch out for Cyrius! ( or how ever it is spelled.)
He'll spend 10k just to pk one mining fellow! ( a joke and exaggeration, but the ghoul's touch / tracking time is.... well serious )
