Auction Event Idea (input?)

I remember on greatlakes there was this guild of trustworthy merchants that used to put on an auction once a week or every two weeks that players would all gather and attend to bid on items.

This is how it worked.

You gave your item to the owner of the guild/auction, in turn he would hold onto it and have an auction for the item in his tower on that date. They kept a small % I think it was 5-10%.
You could set an amount that the item had to reach to in order for it to sell.
At the end of the auction, the players would meet with the seller and he would sell the item to them in a trade.
Once that is done, he would contact you and give you your money for the item.


I think this would be a really good idea to get people involved with trading and trading on the forums can sometimes be a hassle and not many people even go on them.

The main question is: who is trustworthy enough to be intrusted with your items.

The Syndicate of Successful Salesmen ($$$) are in the process of organising the holding of such auctions. Discussions and plans are continuing.

Auction House is a very good idea, I just don't know how many people have items worth auctioning (server births, CUB items, and old shard-"bugged" items are the only things I can think of worth holding actual auctions for)

I'd be willing to help out, I have no interest in ruining my reputation over some pixels, but I'd want to read more details and chat with the people running the show.

I also suggest, as much as a player house would be good, I think using one of the in-game "Halls" would be a better idea (Lord British's throne room, Serpent's Hold meeting hall, Yew Courthouse, Trinsic square, etc) It sounds like a great idea to bring a little more "community" to the shard, and it would be cool to use some of those locations that exist in Britannia, but are rarely/never used. Hell it could be held at a different location each time.

I think the best part of events like this are they're open to all main characters. i.e. (Reds) Included. Course, at times the low lifes would raid it. But in turn it gave birth to great anti guilds. I know some places were very well respected even by reds. But, to start it would probably not be a bad idea to begin in a town here and there. That way the trust can be built up between the organization and the players.

MpS members were pretty reknown for their trustworthiness. Also of note some of everything would be auctioned off even things like this silver emm acc bow of force I have collecting dust lol.

i lagged out constantly on my phone line at those events

those worked so well on osi servers because of the vast amount of players and how many didnt know trade forums existed,
for it to work here your main problem woudl be getting word out about the auction, as forums would be your main way to do it, and most the people who would use this service are the ones who dont go on the forums... if you know wha tim sayin

but if you figeur it out ill help, i loved those, its where i get all my magic armour on osi, got a named golden chest plate from quest event for 200k, i almost peed in rl

Ah, old Rojo Diablo. I spent a ton of time at his place, even before it got his GM blessing. I even broke into it (i.e. got over the counter) once using the old horse summon bug. I thought about trying to rob him at the next auction but I went the honest route.

Then there was the time that our guild (not bloodrock) bombed the aunction with purps. LOL. We were hired to.

That tower was called RedDevil's auction house. It was GM blessed with a stables on the side of it. I had a tower right beside that thing and because of that fact alone, I was able to get $2,000 US for my first UO account heh.
